Winging his way to Lancashire?
Winging his way to Lancashire?
According to reports on Sky Sports News we’ve received an estimated £4m bid from an unidentified Premier League club for Duffer. And in keeping with recent activity it seems we are considering the offer for the Irish international.

As we expected, the fire sale is well and truly underway and we were always likely to lose players with Premiership experience. Duff is also one of the higher earners so the board will be keen to let him go for a decent price. Losing a million from the price we paid for him, all things considered, probably looks like good business to Ashley and co.

Despite stating his desire to stay at Newcastle, the likelihood is that a return to the top flight is sure to turn his head. Having scored in our draw with West Brom, Duff will have done wonders for his appeal to potential suitors and he arguably has a couple of years left in him if he can regain his form.

Personally, I’ve been impressed with him so far this season and he’s looked one of the fitter and more lively members of the squad. However, whether that has had as much to do with putting himself in the shop window I’m not sure.
The winger has been linked with Bolton Wanderers earlier this summer, although it’s not certain if the alleged bid has come from the Lancashire side (or any of the other sides since mooted by speculating media and fans…..).

  1. I heard it could be Blackburn bidding for him.

Could also see west ham maybe considering a bid.

  2. I agree with you BBM, Duff looked quite sharp in the WBA game.

Selling these high earners is understandable when we need to reduce the obscene wage bill but it’s worrying when there’s so little transfer window time left.

I have no doubt that if Ashley remains owner he’ll try to loan players rather than buy them, but even that will be tricky if time runs too short.

As it stands, injuries – particularly to defenders – could really expose us.

  3. Big Sam was always an admirer of Duff???
co-insides with comments from the Rep Ireland coach earlier this week speculating on his future in the Ccc.

However,I would (at this time) be sorry to see him go.

  4. hmmm a worrying one really is it! I personally think Duff has been amongst the bunch who have simply not performed and contributed to us going down, so therefore I would have no problem in getting his wages of the books, for a good price too!
However the obvious issue is cover! We are really getting down to the bare bones if he moves on!!! Lua Lua could come in but then who?? a midfield 3?
As ever, I think we are going to have an eventful couple of weeks here in NUFC land!

    …out-going number 10 for our in-form number 11.

And STILL no incomings. Something’s gotta give soon, but I very much doubt it’s Ashley.

    What a joke.

  6. Reckon it’s Hull!

They are trying to by everyone else!

    Relegation fight this season IMO.

Nine players out and nothing in……

  7. he wont be missed as hes never really gone past a fullback since he signed. firmally believe signing him hampered the progress of nzogbia who was a tremendous attacking player who we lost cos we played him at fullback!

  8. Thought I’d mix the headline up a little as everyone seems to have a different view on who it’ll be!
I’m fairly confident it could be from one of the following sides –

Hull , Aston Villa, Wigan, Blackburn, Man City, Bolton, S********d, Portsmouth, Fulham, Stoke, Burnley, Wolves, West Ham, Everton, Arsenal, Man Utd, Spurs, Liverpool, Birmingham or Chelsea.

    But probably not Chelsea.
