Toon Perch’ed for Forest utility player move?

Will Hughton land James Perch in his net?
Will Hughton land James Perch in his net?
A little bit of a transfer news coming out of St James’s Park suggests we could be on the verge of making our first signing of the January transfer window. Nottingham Forest’s James Perch worked under Colin Calderwood during his spell as Forest manager, so no doubt there would have been some recommendation coming from our Scottish assistant manager.

Predominantly a right back, the 24 year old can also play in the center of defence and has covered various positions across the midfield at points in his career. So, a utility player then, although one who is apparently held in high regard by manager Billy Davies, who quickly signed Nick Shorey as temporary cover whilst Perch recovers from a long standing shin problem.

You’ll forgive me for not getting over excited over us being linked with a player who has played the majority of his games in League 1, and perhaps this shows the level of ambition being shown by our current owner!

If it’s a right back we are after so desperately then why don’t we pull out all the stops to secure Danny Simpson? Fair enough, he didn’t have the best of games last night, but every player has a below-par game once in a while and Simpson has been largely excellent during his time with The Toon. Manager Chris Hughton is still confident of landing the Salford lad in a £500,000 deal, with fresh talks scheduled today. Hughton said:

“Danny’s one that we’re still working on.”

“I’ll have to see him, but officially, he’s a Manchester United player until it’s decided otherwise.”

“We’re still working and making decisions.”

“The most important thing is to bring in the lads we need in the areas we need, and we’d like to do that as soon as possible.”

With now only 13 days left of the current transfer, time and options are running out quickly. I don’t expect much movement, but I would have thought Simpson would have been a dead cert and one of the earlier deals signed and sealed in the transfer window.

At the moment, despite Hughton’s early tarnsfer window promises, this transfer window is quickly getting a familiar ring to it!

  1. Very little chance of a team challenging us for automatic promotion giving us one of thier players . If we are after him then we should go for his team mate joe garner he is a striker that has fallen out of favour with the manager but has a good scoring record for his previous club carlisle united . Forest payed 1.150,000 for him and he would be as good as beckford and is still only 21 . Apparently the few chances that lad has had he was played out of position as a winger .

TGS – Neither had I! A bit of research was needed to find oot about him

)))Aye toonsy I had to refer to my Sky Sports book (used to be the Rothmans), he appears to have been a regular in the team prior to his injury. I would be more positive if he was a creative midfielder with pace, but hey ho.

  3. dont know about this one perch dont do well in a goldfish bowl, and i hope monty doesnt try to eat him

  4. Ed’s Blog is driving me crazy, over populating the newsnow portion for Newcastle. This is a lot better, he writes an article for every single rumor and then we are flooded with useless ads. Keep this blog going, it is a lot more relevant and a lot easier to read.

As far as Newcastle goes, last night was the first time we played a team with premiership players and the defence looked very much like last season, I still believe we will make it, but it is not going to be easy.

  5. I notice the Forest fans are saying they would be happy to see him go.

Not sure I like that like.

  14. You must be having a laugh!!! £500k, this was our captain and best player last season and is an excellent holding midfielder. Pompey offered £1.5m when they had money. We’d laugh at the clowns in charge of your club if you offered that.

Newcastle have been shocking everytime I’ve seen them play – including when they came to the City Ground. Why would Perchy want to play in an ageing side with washed up failures!! Our side is young and a few of the current crop will made the England fold in years to come

with you! im allways right ;)

  16. Additionally, now Shorey’s gone he’s guaranteed a first team place. Gunter (another former target you couldn’t afford) will play left back and Perchy will play on the right.

Earlier on the blog you mentioned Joe Garner – please tbuy him he’s been an expensive CC flop. With exception to 6 goals last season he hasn’t done much and spends all his time raging up the oppo or on the floor. In exhange we’ll take back Magic Marlon if you still have him

  19. Ha ha! Mate what’s ironic is when you had money & were considered good you still bought all the shit

We used to make some of the world’s most awful transfer deals anyway though, batty. I beleive that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.

  21. batty – you need to learn not to bite mate, you should get yourself a hobby :-)

personally don’t mind forest or any team in championship – they’ll be there next season or season after while we’ll be in prem even with fcb in charge – get over your small club / supporter base you sad fvks :-)

    damn I’ve become batty :-)

  22. The only thing Keegan has his eye on was 25million quid he could take from the club – scumbag

  23. lol so he couldnt spot a decent player then stardy name me 2 players what he brought that were shite

  24. batty – king kev had an eye for a player that everyone knew was good but he signed some right donkeys as well – hottiger, kilcline, venison along with a load of others – ultimately the big name buys mostly worked out which is prob down to his mgmt style but I def wouldnt say he could spot an unproven player

  25. iam off too bed stardy make sure u rest them lips so there fresh for the sucking up too leaky butt magoo cashmygold stu tomoz m8

  26. Need I say more batty – he made a lot of poor signings – just think with that 25mill he tried to get from us – we could have been bust – shameful really. He will always be remembered in these parts for the last act he did instead of all the good things.

Aye, but he wan’t that interested in grooming bairns though batty. Players like Vuckic, Ranger, Kadar etc were Wise buys.

  30. is it just me wondering where this 6 million is gone for our transfers. are sports direct gonna bother paying us or is ashley swindling money out of us again?

  31. lets face it every manager has made bad buys – fergie, mourinho, wenger etc have signed lots of donkeys but you hope your big signings pull you through or at least half of em – keegan did a fantastic job even 2nd time round although ultimately his personality let him down – rightly or wrongly

  32. reet am off to bed – these twats on film 2010 talk a right load of shite – I remember Ross behind the sofa snorting in the 80s long before he wad on sat night live

  33. The reason MA dont wanna spend any more money can be taken from a few on this list.
Mirandina, Carl Cort, Bramble, Marcelino, Luque, Duncan Fergasun, JD Tomasson,Gusinarch, Joey Barton, Boumson, Owen, Viana, Bassedas, Goma. So Perch would be a snip and will probibly turn out to be as good as other NFFC acadamy lads like Jermaine Jenas & Andy Cole, thats why Forest fans & probibly BD as well want to keep him. I,ve lived Northumberland for most of my adult life and wish you well. You Reeedddds

  34. Perchy and the rest of the Forest squad are going nowhere except back to the premiership WITH FOREST !!!!

  35. Jesus, and Newcastle fans get called deluded!

Tales of England call ups for Forest players, Perch bein valued at £500,000, all on the back of a decent run in which they still havn’t caught us! I think it’s Forest fans who are sounding deluded at the minute.

  36. id like 2 say i told you so. Hueva mad the small fan base comment remember your grounds 2 big 4 u!!! We fill ours in the championship, i know its a smallerground but we’re a 2 club city. In either case we should be allowed the 10000 empty seats at ur place

  37. tom
do you fill the ground on a Monday night when the match is on TV and the away fans don’t bring a full contingent? That’s very clever!

  38. Soh ! guess it`s rummaging around the bargain basement, looking for future stars for nowt, good luck with that approach.
See Boro. have a bid in for the young striker i recently recomended along with Moses, names Best with Coventry.
Maybe I should be scouting for this club as what they are comming up with aside from Kilgallon was and is rubbish.
Course when your budget is rubbish , guess you dont have much choice.
Gotta give Hughton kudos, never bitches, keeps the side on an even keel, just gets on with the job regardless how difficult.
There would be plenty of guys who would have taken a hike rather than deal with some of the situations that have arisen recently.

  39. I hear that Hughton on the advice of Calderwood is muting a Kevin Nolan swap deal to land Perch.
I must say that Perch will give Newcastle more options, he’s younger and fitter so this would be a good deal…

Let’s hope he pulls it off!
