Hughton hails ‘best fan’s in the country’.

Our magnificent support.
Our magnificent support.
Manager Chris Hughton has today called on the Newcastle fans to help push the team over the finishing line, starting on Monday when we go head to head against promotion rivals Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park..

Nottingham Forest have sold out their ticket allocation for the top of the table clash and the sheer importance of the game should mean that Newcastle have a crowd near to 50,000. Whether it will be enough to topple our record of 49,644 set against Middlebrough earlier in the season remains to be seen but either way an electric atmosphere can be expected. The only reasons I expect this game to not sell out are because of the Monday evening kick off and because of live Sky TV coverage. That said though, a crowd of around 50,000 on a Monday night will be magnificent and flies in the face of critics who claimed that we would struggle as crowds desert us.

Speaking to the clubs official website, Chris Hugton waxed lyrical about the fantastic level of support the team has recieved this season.

“We’ve got the best home record in the country because we’ve got the best fans in the country,” Hughton said, “They have turned out in huge numbers at St James’ park all season, they have always stuck with us and that’s why, on a couple of occasions, we’ve got late goals to win games.”

Hughton wont go far wrong when he dishes out such effusive praise when talking of the fans. Keeping them on side is very important for any manager who wants time and we have seen many examples of ‘fan power’ forcing a chairman to act, not only with oursleves but at other clubs aswell. What better way of keeping fans on side is there asides from flattery?

Anyway, enough of the love-in. Looking forward to Monday’s game against the only team that is really challenging our promotion, Hughton has yet again called on the fans to play their part. Chris said:

“We need them again on Monday because this is a massive game, probably the biggest of the season so far.”

I’m pretty sure the atmosphere will be electric on Monday evening and our lot will be doing their best to spur the lads on to a win that would, barring the most ridiculous Devon-loch style collapse, effectively seal our promotion. Whether we break our own record again remains to be seen but if it isn’t this match then I’m pretty certain we will get a full house before the season is out.

  1. John Terry shags Wayne Bridges wife, makes her have an abortion and shags her some… Bridge doesn’t shake Terry’s hand. Steven Taylor shows Andy Carroll one text from his lass… Carroll brakes Taylors jaw!

That’s what makes you proud to be a Geordie!

  4. jay jay,
i was sent what Stuart wrote, as a text today, from a cockney friend here in the smoke.
    Is what i meant.
Morphic resonance is how the dickie birds all around the country have the same skills. That’s science, that is.
    :)

  5. forest & their fans will see the game on monday as a taster for the prem, should they get there.
It would probably be better if no one showed up for the game & disappointed them.
    Psychologically speaking.

  8. Good article Toonsy.. Wor fans can play a big on Monday night, and I’m sure they’ll all be up for it. Hopefully we’ll have enough on the pitch to sort out Forest too. I would say with games running out Forest must win, whereas a draw would do us, though a Toon win would fettle Forest once and for all.

Just enjoying the build up over the weekend for the big game…Monday night will be mental…

Will be doon toon Munich for the big match in the Aussie bar…though toon fans are non-existant ower here..

  9. Rupert Sheldrake uses the expression ‘Morphic Resonance’ to refer to what he thinks is the basis of memory in nature….the idea of telepathic interconnections between organisms and of collective memories within species.

It’s like when sometimes we lose it in midfield and the entire crowd doesn’t seem to mind, and on other occasions everyone freezes with horror as (somehow) we collectively know the opposition are going to score. Likewise when we are going to miss a penalty.

I also partly blame the same Morphic Resonance for our last two cup final defeats and the underlying negative feedback loop set up that prevented us from even looking like winners. I can’t blame the ’74 defeat on it as Sheldrake didn’t coin the term until ’81, but I still need to blame something as the memory of ducking back and forward from behind a Wembley pillar to see the game is a reoccurring one.

  12. F**ks sake,i didn’t expect to log on to the blog and see reference’s to the works of Rupert Sheldrake and Andy Carrols spam hands in the same thread-this is truly a harbinger of the Apocalypse if ever i’ve seen one. Thats what makes you proud to be a Geordie.Next week on the blog: Bowburn interviews Wyn Davies on his recently published pamphlet deconstructing Jung’s seminal 1912 masterwork ‘Wandlungen und Symbole der Libido’.

  13. haha monkeyspantry don’t pretend you’re pissed off with people discussing Sheldrake; it just gave you a right good oppurtunity to flex your cognitive muscle-power! ;)

  14. Classic .org, mixing it up.

Monkeyspantry – I wish you’d contribute more man, I really do.

Imagine the Sky cameras against Forest, reporter walks up to a Gore Tex-jacket-wearing local, resplendent in Burberry cap and Air Max. Looking very much the usual Sky camera drooler.

“You must be thinking you’re a safe bet for promotion if you win tonight?”

“Jedenfalls bin ich überzeugt, daß der Alte nicht würfelt.”, says the radgie before nodding knowingly and walking off.

  15. devon – I think you missed the tone.

“Thats what makes you proud to be a Geordie.”

    Or I did…

  16. It’s what makes us great. These are the sort of discussions that go on in the Percy arms. Honestly :)

  17. Had a great night there a few weeks ago toonsy. Decent music in there as well mate. Gutted back on afternoons when we play Monday night :(

  18. Often pop in to the Percy on me day’s off
Top bar but never been the same since the bike went!

  19. ah well no harm done either way Bowburn :) Bloody hope we beat Forest, that really will signal the light at the end of this long, long tunnel. I reckon either a hard-fought 2-1 or 3-2 type scoreline, or failing that we throw caution to the wind, really flex the muscles and turn em over with a cardiff/barnsley scoreline just to show em who’s boss :D Lol very unlikely though…

  20. Hey Geordie German @26….sorry mate ! Where are you at, anywhere near sunny Bavaria ?……Nice Jaarman line Bowburn@31 !

  21. You got the tone spot on Bowburn, this thread properly made my morning.Loving your work.
