Andy Carroll seeks specialist help for thigh injury
Missing 2 more games at least
Newcastle United’s Andy Carroll has suffered a setback in his recovery from a torn thigh muscle.

Apparently Andy Carroll is off to Sweden tomorrow to seek specialist help for his thigh from a world-reknowned doctor (world-reknowned to those who know him well, that is). Carroll is definitely ruled out of the Fulham game and is extremely doubtful for the Arsenal game too.

Alan Pardew said:

We brought him to Portugal to start running and the disappointing news is that he hasn’t.

His injury is in the muscle just above the thigh – an area that doesn’t get great circulation so doesn’t heal very quickly.

We’re going to send him to someone who’s the world’s best thigh repair expert. This guy is in the arctic end of Sweden and he’ll be flying out on Friday and we’re hoping he’ll be able to turn him around quickly.

He’s definitely out of Fulham and probably Arsenal too. There has to be no doubt (when he returns).

This is of course not good news, particularly on the back of Carroll’s optimistic prognosis of earlier this week.

Unless we bring another striker in before the transfer window closes, I would anticipate Pardew sticking with Shola and Best up front with substitute appearances from Ranger and Lovenkrands as necessary.

Another option would be to play Nolan off a striker as Chris Hughton did on occasion. Or possibly Stephen Ireland, who has been strongly linked with a move to our club, although Newcastle and Villa are said to be ‘miles apart’ in their negotiations for the attacking midfielder.

  1. I think going to the Arctic at this time of the year would turn anyone around quickly :) its so cold up their then it could be more than just his thigh that needs fixed

  2. Does anyone else think that there was something in the reports about Carroll being out for two months?

Perhaps the whole “back in the next three weeks” deal was just spin from the club…

  3. Let’s hope Carroll has not got a long term recurring injury.

I was in the Leazes End when Jonathan Woodgate hobbled off behind the goal line with a similar injury. He never played for us again and has made very few appearances for any of his subsequent clubs. A player of similar build as Carroll and with similar outstanding ability.

I really hope I am wrong about this but we may already have seen the best of Carroll.

    Sorry to be so gloomy.

  4. Icedog, Isn’t Ranger ‘pacey and has eye for goal’? We shouldn’t be trying to get loan players when we already have at least four other strikers available. Carroll got his chance and took it after we got rid of Viduka and Owen. There is no point in having the likes of Ranger, Lovenkrants, Xisco and lately young Airey always warming the bench. Ameobi and Best need competition.

  5. Bad news on Carroll!! Personally I’d like to see what xisco can do. I don’t think he has ever had a full match for the 1st team and we are paying a sh1t load of cash!! It’s about time he earned some of it and I think he must have the talent in there somewhere.

  6. KAMAR you think ranger is in the same class as sturridge at this point,i dont, plus hes a different type of player than him, dont you think if you can vary your play it can be a all round improvement to the team

  7. I’m quite concerned really. Fingers crossed it just needs time to repair and strengthening when he’s able. At his age if he’s even rushed by a week it could leave it’s Mark for the rest of his career.

I’d rather he was out for the next 2 months or longer to ensure his fitness for the future.

  8. How about an offer for Lita from boro he has been scoring goals in the last few games and has played in the premiership before , would come cheap because boro need the cash with their parachute payments ending at the end of the season and he would bring something different to what we have upfront . Or a swap deal with Lovenkrands .

  9. I was afraid of this.

So it will be what is healthy now to the end of the season. If any og the big three injuries come around, consider them a bonus. Even if they do, don’t expect 100% performance.

Hold on, it is going to be chancy.
