Agent: Moussa Sissoko in negotiations with Newcastle, Lyon, Liverpool and Inter Milan.

Moussa Sissiko: Enforcer.

Newcastle United now seem to have been linked with most midfielders in France’s Ligue 1, with the latest one being Toulouse’s 21 year old French International, Moussa Sissoku.

In an interview, his agent Bacary Sanogo revealed that while Lyon may be slightly leading the pack in the hunt for the big lad, he is also in negotiations with Newcastle United, Liverpool (again) and Inter Milan.

He blathered:

“The link with Lyon is serious, but it is not the only one.

“There are also negotiations with Liverpool, Newcastle and Inter. Things should seriously movove next week.”

Sanogo then added that:

“His priority is a club with a major sporting project. But it will not pose a problem to Moussa to remain with Toulouse.”

However with two years left on his cintract, the player would almost certainly be more expensive than the recent cut price infusions of Gallic flair to the Magpies, who have cost a total of just over £4 million, including Demba Ba, although he plays for Senegal intrnationally. A price of over £13 million has been bandied around, allegedly by Toulouse’s Chairman, although he didn’t seem to be quoted on the matter. Sissoko is thought to be worth a good ten million though.

He is is a fairly big unit at 6’2″ and a bit of an enforcer who combines good defensive skills but has played more recently in more of a ‘box to box’ role. He is also a player who does seem to have attracted quite alot of interest in the past.

Oh well – Another day, another French midfielder…

Poll,

Do you think that Sylvain Marveaux will be a good signing for Newcastle United?

I know we already have more midfielders than we can shake a stick at, but I REALLY hope there’s some truth in this and that we get him.

This lad is a serious bit of talent people. A big step in the right direction!

Big and strong in the tackle but with a shot that’ll make keepers want to dive the other way.

well back on to the blog thank God!! with the midfield situation some of the reserve midfield players for newcastle will start to think do i have a future with the club if they keep overlooking me, so names like brad inman and vuckic you would really want to stay at the club and push for first team

I’d say Moussa Sissoko is not as easy to say as Moussaka Pastitsio.

Pretty basic stuff I think. Why would an agent ever want to tell that his client is in negotiations with anyone other than his current team?
Its purely a negotiation tactic to either try to get a better deal at home, or to try to get other teams interested when nobody is.
Do we need another midfielder? No.
I love the way they refer to him as an “enforcer”. Does that mean he has not skill and the timing of Paul Scholes?

I reckon someone from Newcastle, perhaps Carr, sometime in the last 12 months said something to somebody, perhaps his agent, and the agent putting two and two together came up with five. As Archie (@6) has said, a negotiation tactic.

Given that the press link us with every midfielder in France and that there has been little or no mention of players from other European countries and in particular strikers I suspect that the club are quietly going about their business (as they have shown in the last 18 months) to capture at least one striker.

I dont see the problem with adding more midfielders – last year we ended up with simpson right wing, colo centre mid etc. we have only net gained one extra so far and looks like smithys on his way. get them all signed up we need a bigger squad in all departments
