Barton having medical at QPR – “My hands are tied”.

Barton: Medical at QPR.
Barton: Medical at QPR.
Newcastle United midfielder, Joey Barton has reported on his Twitta page that he is now going for a medical at West London suitors, Queen’s Park Rangers.

He also tweeted that there has still been no offer of a contract extension at his current club and that he is leaving reluctantly as his “hands are tied” due to the lack of an offer from the club’s current owner, Mike Ashley.

His tweets read as follows:

“Going for a medical now, still no contract offer from NUFC…….think that just about makes my mind up.”

“Don’t want to leave Newcastle……..I’ve made that clear but my hands are tied.”

More on this story later no doubt, as it develops. Over and oot!

  1. Bye Joey thanks for the memories. However we’ll be OK without you because Fatman knows the football industry inside out and has loads of cheap options lined up to replace you !

  2. We knew he was off. Good luck with the Champions League Joey…

Well, at least Q.P.R have ambition. Amazing how quick out-going transfers are conducted by Newcastle these days.

  3. Squad is now smaller than it was when we returned to the BPL – which makes sense if you want to return to the Championship as a leaner outfit prepared for a three or four year stay ?

  4. At least our midfield is well stocked eh! However more than halfway through another week and still no new faces and another player leaves.

  5. His hands are not tied! He can choose to respect the club policies and play his heart out for The Toon for the rest of the season!

The rest of us don’t have the luxury of multi-year multi-million pound contracts so what’s wrong with just playing this season out and seeing how things go? Pardew plays him and obviously rates him as a player.

He’s a whinging idiot who gets paid millions to respect and play for a club but wants to play by his rules. If he stopped slagging off his bosses for a season then he may well find a new contract on the table.

Will be happy to see the back of the man and unfortunately the man comes with the player…

  6. AndyMac, read my tickets article. The whole club is geared up for a sale mate. The sooner the better.

  7. Thank good for Mike Ashley, hopefully Barton will complete signing and a couple of others will see that with him joining its a good opportunity for them to join us too. Welcome Joey and can you persuade Parker to do the same please!!

  8. QPR fan here, hope he joins, is the kind of player we need, suprised we got him(if we do that is) feel for you guys with ashley in charge have geordie mates that are not happy and agree we got a great free transfer, well done beating the mackems tho :)

  9. Can people please stop calling the Premier League the ‘EPL’ or ‘BPL’ we’re not yanks.

As it was on the cards that Joey was going obviously it is no surprise that he is off. what is a surprise is his choice of club… QPR?!? I thought he wanted to play in the chanmpions league.

I’m glad he’s off now though. Watching the Arsenal game and the mackems get beat I thought he wasn’t at his best. Every ball he played either in play or dead ball was badly over-hit which isn’t like him. His emotions seem right up and we can’t afford to have a hand grenade in midfield, especially with Tiote bound to get sent off at some point in the season!

  10. Barton cost £242,000 per game good riddance. Judge a man by his actions not his tweets.
    Good riddance

  11. QPR fans – He’ll be great for you for a while. Everyone tries harder when they’re in a new job. But when the honeymoon period is over and he doesn’t agree with something that the club does, he’ll be tweeting your dirty laundry all over the world…be warned…

  12. Nasri leaves Arsenal for £24m with a year left on his contract. Barton leaves for nowt with a year left on his contract.

Good business Fatman is getting a good deal when you sign players as well as when you sell them :(

  13. I choose not to believe Bartons twitter feed, after all if i did that then it would be true when he said….
    – that he would only leave newcastle once his contract ran out or to go to a champions league club
    – that he was well with in his rights to stay exactly where he was (the day he was given a free transfer).

Players lie, Management lie – i don’t think you can have 100% trust in anything anyone says anymore in football. End of the day if Barton goes to QPR then he’s making the decision because he’s been given the best contract for his long term financial security. It’s certainly not for emotional or footballing reasons – fari play to him but wish players would just admit it.

I’ve started to hate the way Barton has become a symbol for the extreme anti-Ashley, i dont love or hate Ashley but if you look at it with a clear head Barton has been at Newcastle for 4years and had 1 good season in footballing terms – people seriously wanted to reward that with a high wage long term deal??

  14. “I’ve started to hate the way Barton has become a symbol for the extreme anti-Ashley, i dont love or hate Ashley but if you look at it with a clear head Barton has been at Newcastle for 4years and had 1 good season in footballing terms”

Unfortunately, if you accept your own jaundiced view, you’ll still have to accept that JB’s last season ended with him as Player of the Year.

What this club needs more than anything else going into the new season is stability. Next priority is quality of squad. With JB going we lose out on both counts.

  15. AndyMac – yeah he was player of the season in his one good year, prior to that if someone had come in for him during his troubles or the January of the season when we got relegated would you have taken the offer?? my view isn’t jaundiced it’s my assessment of his 4 year at the toon – if you think he’s been top notch for 4 yrs you’re entitled to your opinion.

i agree on your stability/quality point but we also need everyone rowing in the same direction so to speak and JB’s snipes at the club was becoming a distraction and creating more negativity at the club. Ultimately, yes, that would be solved by Ashley leaving but that just doesn’t seem likely to happen. I think we’ll miss him i wanted him to get his head down and see out his contract but if he’s got a secure deal elsewhere then he’s gonna take & you can’t know him for it but it bugs me when players make out that it’s out of their hands, it’s not, it’s entirely in their hands (hence why we still have Smith at the club).

  16. hes a good player no doubt about it and he showed great heart when he played, but i couldnt care a less that hes gone, he constantly played the fans against the club and it worked in his favour, hes a good player but we have better and i am confident the club will bring someone in to replace him. Wish him all the best at QPR but why has he gone there? Its all about money for Mr Barton and his infamous agent.

Champions league club was it he would only leave for? laughable, hes nothing but a liar. Once hes signed he will be coming out with all the usual rubbish, QPR are building something special i want to be part of, they have great ambition and i was impressed with the owners plans blah blah blah, when the reality is hes got himself a wage rise.

  17. @ Mark #5

    Absolutely spot on.

He’s a spoilt brat that has caused controversy everywhere he has been. Whether it be violent or not, he has caused problems and will continue to do so.

Petulant and extremely unprofessional and we will be better off without.

If we sign this french lad up front from Sochaux and manage to get Pieters/ Cissokho in at left back and another midfield player to replace Joey, all will be forgotten.

Everyone panicked and was shocked to see Nolan leave, 4 points from our first two games, both hard games at that and all of a sudden who’s Kevin Nolan?

    COME ON THE TOON!

  18. Good riddance, one good season out of 4, I thought he wanted to play in the champions league?? There wasn’t much of a chance in that happening at Newcastle, not a chance in hell at QPR. I thought is agent said there were a few top clubs interested in Barton…. QPR WTF??!

  19. Not sure if mentioned, but the Lyon president has confirmed we’ve made a bid on RMC radio.

    http://www.sport.fr/football/ligue-1-cissokho-pose-pas-mal-de-problemes-l-ol-230385.shtm

“Currently, Aly Cissokho is causing us a lot of problems because every day he’s coming to us asking to leave” said President Aulas’ advisor on RMC, a request which “Les Gones” aren’t yet ready to give in to, particularly since an offer made by Newcastle is a long way from meeting the asking price….”That would be annoying if he left a few days before the window closed, after Newcastle had made an offer. But the problem is Newcastle have offered half of what we originally paid for him. If this remains the case. Aly will stay with us”, said Lacombe.

  20. I’d like to say I’m going to miss Joey’s tantrums, puffing his chest, tweeting…

I’d like to say it …but no sorry seeya ….

  21. We have QPR after Fulam he will prob make his debut against us…. On another note not too bothered that he,s gone gosling is his ready made replacement i think gosling is way WAY better JB,s set pieces have been horrible lately Cabaye will take over there… Fatman better get his checkbook out and sign a striker and a left back and i mean like NOW

“Not sure if mentioned, but the Lyon president has confirmed we’ve made a bid on RMC radio.”

Aye Summer, thanks for that! It has been mentioned but not much because Ashley’s bid was ludicrously low compared with his valuation.

  23. How many feckin times do I read that so called fans slag off a player as soon as he’s out the door or, in JB’s case, before he’s out the door ?

JB may be a pillock for his tweets but he has passion, commitment and above all a desire to win.

When he’s not in the team we fair badly and the stats……………………cant be arsed any more yeah JB’s a waste of space feck him and lets see the new Fatman inspired NUFC take us all the way to the top :(

  24. Joey Barton eh ?

His brother is a convicted murderer , his family are all horrible people and they give vile rebuke when talked to by the press, Joey greivous bodily harms a drunken guy in a liverpoool macdonalds who gives him a little abuse, when he should have walked away , and basically becaause he goes to court whilst a NUFC player we get tarnished with all the bad press! We take him of Citeh cos nobody else wants him ! Now he leaves like a bad smell via the back door as if it’s all toons fault , poor Joey ! go cry in yer bank balance ya mancky yob ! Sorry to be so vociferous I know he can play some decent footbal when he’s not got his studs up and yelling and braying the opposition , but….

I FOR ONE AM GLAD HE IS GOING GOING …GONE !!! GOOD RIDDANCE…

    TOON ARMY !!

  25. Good to see the back of Barton, the bloke is a libility, and an expensive one too, another £65k off the wage bill every week whoopppeeeeee.

Of course the jokers in charge will not re-invest the money they save and collect from transfers, there’s the sad bit.

So its taken you four years to get up enough confidence to write that shlte ?

  27. I’m a so-called fan, and have slagged JB off when he was at the club…I’ll be consistent and slag him off when he’s out the door too…

£55,000 off the wage bill Munich.

Yeah but thats only because Joey Tried to run the show , his gap in midfield will be filled by other’s wishing to push their claim on first team footy, and it goes on infinitum , my bet is we finish higher this season withooot JB !

    KTF

  30. oooops….sorry Worky….£55,000 off the wage bill every week….a bit less then for the fat controller to stuff under his mattress

  31. Andy Mac No actually I said it when he first came ! You have to look at the players like Joe Harvey, Malcolm Macdonald, Alan Shearer, Peter Beardsley , Jackie Milburn , would they have been proud to have Joey as a black and white ?

    UNFORTUNATELY NOT !!

I stick with it he bullied the team , and now better subjects will arise and play where joey once was !

  32. don’t worry man, why are so many grown men getting all so emotionally strained over Barton’s departure…?

Now Jose leaving, THAT was a tragedy…

  33. and I mean bullied .. where grabbed the ball all the time when there was scorable opportunities at free kicks , now we have Ryan Taylor ! and others who will too willingly come up to the plate !

  34. “Yeah but thats only because Joey Tried to run the show”

Who else was there to take up the challenge at SJP when we were 0-4 to the Gooners ?

Oh wait I know the answer to that. It was all about Pardwho’s rabble rousing, gung ho, Dunkirk spirit team talk at half time

  35. Munich, I think the sad thing (in my case anyway) is regardless if it’s Barton or anyone else. We have lost another quality player.

Will we get these replacements in?

That’s what I’m worried about. It’s always so swish when the club sell someone, but for incoming transfers it’s always chaos!

  36. I’ve supported toon for 45 years since I was 6 , I have no fear of my views and beliefs, played football for nearly 30 and referee under 10’s , some of the 9 year olds I see every saturday , would make JB look S**T , and they don’t argue ! let’s move on , I’m not saying any more on Joey , I’m Toon thru and thru , er Joey’s left the stadium let’s not cry in wa broon eh bonnie lads !

  37. Jimbob…I agree 100% with you mate. My issue isn’t with Barton as a player, though he’s not as good as he thinks he is, it’s the way he’s carried himself more than anything else, and the negative attention which he has brought to the club.

As you say though, we have lost an established PL player, who imo we would need to stabilise the side with so many new players coming in.

Regarding the door swishing, it did swish at the beginning of the transfer window, with new players coming in. I’d like to think we’d bring in a new left back and striker, but I fear that aint gonna happen the way the muppets in charge go about things…

  38. We’ve all supported Toon for years and years but not one of us is stupid enough to say that we can do without another quality first team player in the squad… oh wait :(

  39. Let’s all remember ONE thing eh?

Players are not like supporters , and supporters equally are not like players !

What I mean…is Player’s can leave the club change their loyalty and move on..I still have nightmares about Andy Cole going to MANU…

Supporter’s can’t leave their club , cut us we bleed black and white .. so oor loyalty is the club , and we are the foundations of the club itself , without us they the club are nothing ! …

  40. andymac, jimbob, munich , tomorrow we are still with nufc , jbs gone , we will evolve , and grow stonger i think…but only time itself will tell ! …

  41. Munich it did ‘swish’ at the start, but the fact we have no LB or ST is what I find unacceptable. Also we have lost 4 of our best players.

Carroll transfer was too good to turn away and a good deal. Trouble is, it’s only been a good deal to Ashley. We have been lied to, unless we spent something before Wednesday.

No other club has got shot of their 4 top performers in less than a year. Even Everton who have no money haven’t sold anyone. When they got rid of Johnson to Fulham a few years back, the money raised (£12 million I think) was re-invested straight away on Fellani.

This is what pisses me off, we have an owner who is just interested in cutting costs etc. IMO he wants to sell the club as quickly as possible. So unfortunately we may have to suffer more losses. We shall see…

    I’m off to S c u n t h o r p e :)

  43. nzedtoonman, you’re right mate, I’m just a pissed of fan. I’m going to the game tomorrow now, don’t care about the politics just want to get behind the team.

I’ll be in the Scunny end mind, I’m not giving that fat bastard any of my money! :-)

“Munich it did ‘swish’ at the start, but the fact we have no LB or ST is what I find unacceptable. Also we have lost 4 of our best players.”

Our last two top goalscorers and our last two players of the season Jimbob.

  45. prediction , one nil to toon , been at away matches in wrang end it’s horrible if we score cant shout for fear of getting in a punch up , famously when we beat west -ham 3=2 at upton park in the last minute got up and cheered and this hammer woman tried to head butt me !!

  46. Jimbob….sadly I don’t agree with your statement that Ashley wants to sell the club as quickly as possible, although I wish he would. Once the costs have been cut right back, he’s just gonna drip bleed the club of cash, pulling his wedge back, gonna do it for the next years. He’ll reinvest money, but just enough to keep us in the PL…the bloke has NO AMBITION other than getting his money back…

Then he’ll be sending a serious Foxtrot Oscar to the Geordies finest sons who sold him the club then sniggered behind the backs of there hands…

  47. Munich I hope you’re wrong! But I agree with you. I am sure though, that if a decent offer came in he would sell it. Just gotta hope someone comes in.

I’d rather have a Bill Kenwright, who even though he can’t spend millions, clearly loves his club and has an inkling of knowledge about football.

  48. finally its all over. i small part of me will miss his team spirit and self professed love of the club. however the other 95% is happy that we are loosing an overpaid player who often lacks quality (his dead balls are either pretty good or way off) and was only a solid player for 1 year. the other years we had him or he was in jail or injured. and i think it comes to almost $250,000 per game for him (about 6 million for the transfer and 60k a week). absurd. thats not even counting the dissent he’s been sowing or the fight. he’s mades some improvements but his punch on pederson last season and a number of other incidents show he’s the same barton who laid into dabo and stabbed someone with a cigar. hes one of the reasons that some people concinder nufc a laughing stock. good riddance. and if we can afford to lose anyone its a midfielder.

  49. Nzed, I was at the 4-3 win at Leeds, sitting in with the Leeds crowd. Had to be careful obviously, but we were 3-1 down with 15 minutes left, but I knew we would get back into the game. We always had a knack under Robson to win games after falling behind. Was very hard to keep quiet that day!

That was some team spirit, and brilliance from Sir Bobby.

  50. Aye,
i was sat with ‘ammers last season when we won 1-2, tough to keep ya’ trap shut.
The best thing was that me ‘ammers mate, bought the tickets, sat with us, didn’t give us away & took it on the chin like a real man/fan..Top night out, top win, top deal, top bloke.
    :)

  51. Well JB’s been ‘forced’ to earn loads of cash & live the life he’s become accustomed to for a few more years somewhere else.
    Ah!
I love the reek of loyalty in the evening, it smells like… vitriol!

    Uh Oh!
    Aaaarrrrrgggghhhh!
I think i’m having an aneurysm!

  52. “You only had to look at our bench on Saturday and the players who didn’t make the bench – like Alan Smith, for example – to know that I feel we are much stronger squad-wise this year to attack this competition, and also attack the FA Cup,”

    – Alan Pardew

  53. I’m sure Alan Smith will dictate the play exceptionally and distribute many accurate passes while demonstrating his astute ability to win back possession.

  54. :)
Smithy, the one who’s free to leave for nowt.
Aye, big up the final bit of dead-wood & get shot, & get him off the mad-up wage bill.

    It’s a hoy-oot!

    ;)

  55. BTW,

I, well the Mrs., sorted the new Toon striker conundrum last night.

He’ll be available for selection in about 16/17 years from now.

    Whey hey!

    Howay the Lad!

    ;)

  56. worky/jimbob,
    ta lads, nice one.

    Phew!
    At last!

Aye the Mrs. played a blinder.

I’ll ask her about the LB, but i reckon she’s not ower keen right about now like.
    :)

  57. Clint that’s mint news. Got to keep him on the straight and narrow. Living away from Newcastle he might start supporting some local side or worse man utd.

  58. Joey Barton is only interested in joey barton and all of his hogwash tweets about us fans and the board treating him badly are just words to get us to play along. He knows what most people feel about the board and his just been manipulating us.

He had a choice when he was standing at central station waiting for his train. He chose to get on it.

  59. Cheers Micky,

Aye, he’ll be donning the Blanco y Negro very soon, don’t worry.

    worky/jimbob,

    Ramone is the lads name.

You’ll understand that one worky & a few other of our friendly neighborhood bloggers no doubt.
    ;)

  60. Nee offence lads , especially you Andymac , but last word is ….. S*D OFF JOEY !…

We move on …. and will support toon freva….

  61. Sorry Clint F , Congratulations missed that thread , nice one it’s a special thing child birth , thing is dont know what these women moan aboot labour ! , they have an amnesia space in their brain cos they still would love more kids !!

  62. Clint – Ramone. Eh? I wonder why. ;-)

Could have called him Joey after our departed midfielder.
