Pardew: Sochaux resigned to losing Maiga and just want the best price.

Pardew: "Am I bovvered?"
Pardew: "Am I bovvered?"
Speaking in a rare interview, Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, has hit back at Sochaux over 23 year old Malian striker target, Modibo Maiga.

Sochaux are accusing Newcastle United of improper conduct over their transfer dealings under Article 18 of the FIFA rules regarding ‘tapping up’ players.

Their statement on their referral to the game’s governing body read:

“On Monday August 22, 2011, FC Sochaux-Montbeliard sent a referral to FIFA with the aim of obtaining (assurances) on the part of Newcastle United that they will stop their contacts with Modibo Maiga, who is under contract with FCSM until 2014.

”This (contact) is in violation of Article 18 of the current international regulations. This measure comes after Sochaux demanded without success, in an official manner and on two occasions, that the English club put a stop to their actions.”

The player himself is on record as saying he wants a move to Tyneside, telling French media:

“I want it to be done with Newcastle. I want to leave – it is necessary that the president agrees to negotiate, I met everybody, they want me and it is not any club. England is a dream. I want to go.”

However Pardew, after distancing himself from the current controversies involving Newcastle United, as I covered in this story, has now made a rare volte face and waded into the dispute, brushing aside Sochaux’s claims and adding that he thinks he will get two positions (striker and left back) filled before the transfer window is closes in a week’s time. Pardew remarked:

“I think there is a little bit of brinkmanship going on, which is understandable, If clubs are resigned to losing a player, they want the best possible price.

“So, when a transfer gets close, suddenly other clubs and the media get to know about it and all sorts of accusations fly around. But when you cut through everything, I want two positions filled before the end of the window and I think we will do that.”

Well lets bloody well hope so after all this carry on!

  1. Really Alan, thanks for that, of course I believe everything you say and you never contradict yourself. Ps will Barton be replaced as he is off to QPR, although you probably don’t know that!

  2. have you seen the GiveMeFootaball posting raising yet again the Carlton Cole (oh god no) link?
    omg!

Calm doon Malcolm. Have you ever read ‘givemefootball’ much? They’ll post any old guff!

  4. “Ps will Barton be replaced as he is off to QPR, although you probably don’t know that!”

Mehdi Abeid is a right footed midfielder with attacking instincts. Signed on a free with a five year contract.

    Sorted !

  5. that picture of pardew is priceless, the expression on his face lol.is that a hand,or another appendage pardew, seems to be taking? is there plenty ky jelly or a dry fist?

So Maiga is AC’s replacement then ? Like for like ? Or just cheapest possible option to fill the shirt ?

“Ps will Barton be replaced as he is off to QPR”

Andy, it would be absolutely impossible to replace the Joey Barton show. :-)

Abeid is a good player, but what’s happening with Vuckic? He’s going to be a hell of a player and now is the time.

  8. There’s no evidence whatsoever that Sochaux are ‘resigned to lose Maiga’ so this is just another pointless piece of guff. I really hope the Carlton Cole story is tosh as well.

  9. bit concerned about Barton leaving now,he was the stand out figure for me in the last 2 matches (ok, Colo too)- kinda hoped he’d end up staying for one more year and ease through the transition of new players…

oh well, very much doubt he’ll be replaced, but perhaps the 2.5m or so we save in wages can now be split and thrown into the LB and ST situation…

  10. Milner says:

“bit concerned about Barton leaving now,he was the stand out figure for me in the last 2 matches (ok, Colo too)”

Time left for Colo to disappear too Milner. Remember he’s on top wages but maybe we could get Smudger to convert to CH as he’s still “earning” a fortune here with no buyers in sight ?

  11. @5

Barton has been replaced by Mehdi Abeid??

thats like saying Alan Shearer could be replaced by Ranger??

  12. My Teddy’s are properly out the pram now!

I have tried to be reasonable and think on the brighter side of life about this so called business man is showing his hand now

does he seriously think that he can just sell all and sundry to claw back as much cash as possible and sell the club on with his debt attached LIKE WE ARE FRIGGING DUNLOP OR SLAZENGER!!!!!!!!!

We are being treat like morons and he couldn’t care less!

Iv had a tits full of this! and there is sod all we can do about it!

  13. Joey undergoing medical “Doesnt want to leave Newcastle but hands are tied”

Thank God for that, another £65k off the wage bill every week whoopppeeeeee

  14. Your quite wrong. I gave up my season ticket I refuse to I’ve that man any more of my hard earned cash. It’s clear he’s gearing up for another sale attempt and someone correct but did we not have a players cttee of smith nolan barton and harps. Smith and barton given frees nolan no contract ext worth noting and harps bumped from the number one slot. Vindictive or sheer coincidence? You decide.

  15. john says:

“@5 Barton has been replaced by Mehdi Abeid??

thats like saying Alan Shearer could be replaced by Ranger??”

Dont shoot the messenger john take it up with Fatman after all he’s the one who wants all wages down to a minimum :(

  16. Amazing how Everton who have no money, still don’t sell as many players and Moyes always says they are not a selling club. Yet Pardew says we are defenceless against the big boys. We seem defenceless against every team!

We have now lost our top 4 players.

Fair enough IF they get replaced with equal talent, which they don’t.

Who’s next, Jonas or Colo? I reckon Colo. Imagine that £70,000 per week off the wage bill.

I bet Ashley is rubbing peanut butter all over his body right now, ohhh yeah…

Enough about your personal fantasies Jimbob.

  18. I Bet Ashley is Well Chuffed he has off loaded Joey Barton . I can see we wont get any new players in !!!!! Problem Being if they want £6 million we offer 4 if they want £10 million we offer 6 and winge that they wont take it !!!!! Ashley Needs to See He is not Buying T Shirts From China !!!! Alan Pardew is Just Ashleys Mouthpeice !!!

  19. Put it this way if Alan Shearer walked down the street in Newcastle Like Bobby Robson or Kevin Keegan the fans would shake there hand and Giv ethem the Key to The City… If Mike Ashley walked down the Road or Even Del Boy They would get a Bloody Good Smack in The Gob !!! Mike Ashley is The Same as Gadaffi !!!! They Do Not Know When to Pack up and Sod off !!!!!

I think Ashley prefers sweatshops in Laos Lee. China’s too expensive for Sports Direct.

  21. One comment ….. over the last few weeks I’ve read these blogs and it normaly starts “in a rare interview” …… in a rare interview? If two interviews per week answering question to sky sports news and local tv is rare I want to know the name of worky tickets agent. Come on worky spill the beans mate who are you really? Are you ant or deck in disguise? I’m 32 and I’ve only been interviewed once and that was by the police. Now that is rare. They won’t catch me twice.

I’m a sarcastic bastard Stephen, and I’ve been interviewed by many people, including the Bizzies.

  23. @23

That’s why I commented earlier about loving the “rare interview”/”rare volte face” stuff. Bit of irony mate.
