Liverpool turn down Ashley’s Carroll offer

Posted on July 15th, 2012 | 40 Comments |

Andy Carroll.
It's that man again!
As an addendum to our previous story on Sky Sports North East correspondent, David Craig, reporting that Newcastle United had made a bid to sign Andy Carroll on loan with an option to buy later, the same Sky Sports are now reporting that Liverpool have turned the offer down.

The station reported that Liverpool are only looking to sell the player, and will not coutenance a loan deal for the former Newcastle striker. This is hardly surprising after all the water which has passed under the bridge since the player departed for Merseyside in Mike Ashley’s helicopter gunship back in January, 2011. This includes the drunken rant of Newcastle United’s Managing Director, Derek Llambias, where he bragged of what fools Ashley had made of the Mersyside club when they somehow managed to extract a fee of up to £35 million, and even extracted a further £20,000 of interest for a slightly late payment on the record breaking fee.

Ooh it is an exciting Sunday!

  2. This is the calm before the shitstorm. Everybody is happy, happy, happy now but we could easily sell Tiote and Ba. Try Ed’s blog it is a lovefest.

I am in a cynical mood today :)

  3. Just read in The Independent that Debuchy flew into England last night to complete move to Newcastle.

“Just read in The Independent that Debuchy flew into England last night to complete move to Newcastle.”

GS, I also read in the Indie that Carroll was “Coming home as Liverpool prepare to write off £25 million”

By the time I clicked on the story it had been completely re-edited with a new title “Carroll in limbo as move home stalls over terms”

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/carroll-in-limbo-as-move-home-stalls-over-terms-7945406.html

When it comes to football, the qualities write the same old tosh as the trashy tabloids, but with a few longer words sprinked in there to make it seem more plausible. Louise Taylor writes for the Guardian.

It isn’t when a dissident wanders in there and has the nerve to write an “off message” comment. It goes off like Stalingrad when that happens!

‘..It isn’t when a dissident wanders in there and has the nerve to write an “off message” comment. It goes off like Stalingrad when that happens..’

And when someone says something nice on this blog about Ashley and Llambias it’s different ?

  7. I cant see Carroll coming, and i’d prefer not to see him after that dive he did at St.James…Also, Pards wud end up playing him as the hit man, with Cisse just off, and we’d have to endure 90 mins of long ball flick ons, with the hope Pappis gets on the end of one.

Ba offers more movement, more pace, more wing attack, and more passing vision.

Get in Debuchy, a decent CB, and then lock the doors!

  8. It’s Ashleys money and he can do what he liks with it, but to repeat what Liverpool or should i say KD did by throwing away a big part of the Torres £50m. on an unproven prospect, even to spend £10m on him now is over the top.
Of course being a local lad there will always be those who would like to see him return.
    Question is why ?
We have two good strikers, but have been desperately chasing a third, guess Pardew is not so confident in Ba staying, or he may get an offer he cant refuse for Cisse?
I’m more concerned about what kind of football we are going to play.
With the signing of a CB and another RB, we can use Santon to fill in for either FB, we have the nucleus of a decent side, small but for the most part quality, with some talented youngsters coming thru the system.
I’m afraid i dont have much faith in our silver supremo, to get the most out of these players, certainly up to now he has shown little in the way of innovation, sticking to an outdated 4-4-2, for the most.
And when playing a more modern 4-3-3, using Ba on the left side, one could see from his body language he was uncomfortable there and was a bad choice, his goal production coming to a halt.
From what we can glean from AP’s statements he has expressed a desire to play up front, meaning back to the 4-4-2.
Say Ba were to leave and we re-signed Carroll, again it would be a 4-4-2.
I’m banking on Carver convincing AP to introduce a more modern concept of the game , in order to get the maximum from a talented group of players, but aint holding my breath.

  9. CF, as in £12m plus £7m (min price Ba) = £19m..??

    Surely not.

Ba said him leaving is all hearsay, but i do wonder whether he’d be happy as 2nd fiddle to Cisse…But then, with Carroll, as Chuck mentioned, u’d be looking at classic 4-4-2.

Somehow, Carroll and Cisse dont seem like natural partners (but then u’d have thought a quick little guy like Suarez would have been his perfect companion, and that proved NOT the case)…..

And HBA is better coming in to shoot/dribble, not just slinging aimless crosses into the big man.

  10. Maybe they think Carroll could do damage against lower level Europa teams…??

He certainly out jumped most at the Euros.

  11. Milner,

    not sure mate,
just what i’ve read, probably utter bollox like.

It’s more the suggestion that pisses me off tbh.
No way would i prefer ac over Ba & defo not giving them money too.
    Dumb idea!

  12. They(liverpool) will be working on the assumption that ac’s worth £35m, which he isn’t, wasn’t & never will be.
He was worth about £10/15m max when we sold him, he’s dropped in value if anything since then, hence their potential sale of him.

    You do the math!

  13. Maybe CF Fatman is contemplating a cheap cut price buy back because he thinks the fans will love him and/or he happiest when making deals

Admittedly with Best and Lover gone our striking options are a little thin but if, as I’d always envisaged, we only played Ba or Cisse in a team flanked by rapid attacking midfielders such as HBA, Cabaye and Marveaux/Jonas then 2 plus Shirley is probably enough ? Especially if £13m (or whatever it costs) is earmearked for AC when it could be put to good use elsewhere !

  14. I made a comment on the Torygraph about the £35m coming from Abramovich – who also bought over the odds so what comes around etc etc. They managed to replace Torres with Suarez for no real outlay so whatever they get back for AC is a bonus !

  15. I will be doing a “match banter” thing for the game this evening for anyone who is interested. It will probably be one of the last ones as even if I keep the blog going, which is doubtful, I intend to be attending more games this season.

Bloody Tory! Before you know it, you’ll be making rabid comments about immigration on the Daily Hate Mail. It’s a slippery slope. ;-)

I’m seriously contemplating an article about the growth of the underclass in our society for the BNP and the EDL :)

  18. Andy @15,

it had crossed what’s left of my mind mate.
    :)

I tend to agree with you about the form like.
Although we do have to weather the ACoN again this term.
Surely we can get someone decent with £13M though.
A ‘in the hole’ kinda player who can double up up top or drop back. Maybe we already have ’em?

“Worky, u heading into blog retirement? Is it just u nowadays? No Hugh de Payne?”

Well, he hasn’t “left”, Milner, but like Clint, he just never does anything nowadays, and I don’t really have the time to do this the way I want to on my own.

  20. worky,
    i will be back mate.

But i must say the off season leaves me cold & the constant speculation & press bollox puts a tin hat on it.

Suffice to say: You are doing an excellent job keeping it ticking over mate.
I’m sure Hugh will be back too.
Once the season kicks off the interest kicks in.

  21. Let’s just hope that this ac speculation is a smoke screen for another deal in the background.

“any one with a link for the match ?”

It’s on ESPN, Summer, and I’ll try to track down a link later as if there are any, they won’t be up yet anyway.

Not for much longer, Clint, I’m f*cking sick of it. I have better things to do with my life than keep things ticking over. Sorry.

So that’ll be no one on this site :)

  25. ……….but seriously, if you recall when you last went on a moan, I offered to do the Match Reviews and Analyses for the forthcoming season.

I’m pretty sure others would chip in too !!

I thought you’d packed in, Andy?

  27. Did you know…………………….

“In the 23 games where NUFC scored first in last season’s PL, 19 wins, 1 draw & 3 losses occurred – 58 pts from 69”

Now thats a fact !!!!

  28. Nobody is mentioning Shola. But he was looking pretty useful when he did play last season. I reckon he will be an asset for the European games, certainly the early ones. Pardo was mentioning Abeid, Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi plus the new signings. I was wondering how they are going to fit in as (providing we don’t lose anyone) we have a fairly settled first team potential line-up.

I’m a glass half full optimist at this stage of the (pre) season.

  29. wt says:

“I thought you’d packed in, Andy?”

Twas only because I got “railroaded” into doing the post match after doing the prematch against Chelski :)

If I know, in advance, what is required then I’ll make time besides which I’m buying into EPL index next season as I’m fascinated by the stuff.
