Everton vs Newcastle United match banter!

Everton v Newcastle United.
Here's hoping we aren't Toffee hammered.
Venue: Goodison Park, Meerseyside.
Date: Monday, 17th September.
Kick off: 8:00pm
Referee: Mike Jones.
UK TV: Sky Sports 1.

Hello, good evening and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this evening’s game against Everton.

With some fans disappointed with the club’s failure to reinforce the squad, with Alan Pardew bravely hitting back at them for not displaying sufficient “gratitude” to Mike Ashley for not “cashing in” some of the players we already have, this could be the start of a fairly decisive period for the Silver Supremo. If we get hammered in this game and produce a another mediocre performance against Maritimo in the Europa League later in the week, he could find himself in something of a downward spiral. On the other hand, convincing victories in both matches would see his latest patronising lecture to fans on behalf of his handlers totally forgiven. We shall see but fingers crossed for the latter!

Of course, the Silver One did get a little egg on his face in our last game against the Toffees, arrogantly and prematurely proclaiming that Newcastle “operate in a different league” to Everton, before being soundly beaten 3-1 by them in our last game of the season. This is something Everton players such as Phil Jagielka and Leon Osman has reminded both Pardew, and their own fans about on the eve of this game, with Jagielka saying:

“I wouldn’t say there was a bit of an edge to the game, but I think it’s a little bit disrespectful for someone to say something like that after one good season. Fair play, Newcastle had a fantastic season and massively overachieved, but they aren’t the first team to overachieve for a season. In the Premier League it’s all about consistency, and if you look at how we have performed over the years, then it’s a little bit disrespectful to come out and say something like that.”

And Osman adding more fuel to the flames, adding to his team mates words:

“It is Alan Pardew’s right to say what he thinks. But, for what Everton have achieved, we could be a role model for clubs like Newcastle because we’ve performed so many times over the past decade. We have had a blip here or there, but I would say we have our best squad ever this season – we have slowly progressed and got a better quality player in. In the beginning, we maybe didn’t have the depth, so if we had injuries we had problems, but look at our bench these days. But there is always the next step which you have to take, you never want to stand still.”

Which is something it is hard to say about Newcastle United when you look beyond our first team to see how much depth there is in some areas of the pitch. However, there’s nothing to be done about that until January now so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed (again) until then.

Getting back to this game though, for some more in depth background, you can do no better than check out AndyMac’s rivetting match preview. This has all the team news, but as usual, I shall be posting the final team sheets for the game when the become available, as well as posting match highlights, and eventually a video of the whole match when these become available too so stay tuned!

Howay the Lads!

  1. Nee botha toontony.

The best link on the wiziwig list linked above is the “Bloodzeed” one on Sopcast. You can get the Sopcast player from here and it’s much safer than using the usual flash based links which can have some dodgy stuff on them.

  2. Worky: interesting write up, and I liked your sarcasim to start it. From the quotes you put up from Everton players, I think they are almost getting as far ahead of themselves as Pardew did.

“I think they are almost getting as far ahead of themselves as Pardew did.”

Not really GS. As they say, Everton have been a top seven or eight club nearly every year over the past decade, we haven’t, and Osman acknowledged that you can never stand still and should be constantly improving the side.

    “Great stream guys:”

Honestly Phisix, that Bloodzeed one is absolutely immaculate. When it’s on, you just can’t beat it!

  5. “Let’s practice this routine down the left wing a couple of times and then see if the Geordies pick it up ?”

  6. It was another Harper dive that is not really a dive, AGAIN! He just fell backwards and stuck out his arm and leg.

  7. Why not stick a three foot pole on Baines head with a big white flag on it with the words “Pass to me” written on it ?

  8. Everton playing football. Maybe we should go 4-4-2 and toe punt it forward. Or, HBA could hopefully pick the ball up and run past a few and smash it into the net from 30 yards.

“Hamady Ba So Demba scored 17 goals since last year and Alan Pardew decided to put him on the bench today … I think this guy is crazy”

Took you long enough Hamady :)

  10. harper’s got his work cut out tonight.Everton knocking it about without being troubled at all.Missing Tiote big style, there’s no link upto Cisse.
Apart from that the game could go either way….,

  11. I’ve seen four different web sites claiming 3 different formations for the Toon tonight. The only positions I can guarantee are Harps is in goal and Cisse is on his own up front :(

  12. it’s a game of two halves don’t forget.
Should be glad it’s only 1-0 and see that as a chance to turn things around.
it can and does happen so lets just wait and see.HWTL.;-D)

    At least it’s only 1…

I was thinking the same thing Big Sledge

“it’s a game of two halves don’t forget.”

Aye cloggy, but as well as we did last season, I can’t ever rembember us coming back if went behind and got dominated like that.

  15. Cisse doesn’t look like the human flick on machine that is Kevin Davies, so these loooong balls ain’t working.

  16. Ian Darke just managed to shoehorn a link to the fact that Man U won the treble in 1999 by mentioning that Harper played in The F.A. cup final that year :)

  17. Andymac: the U.S. commentators are saying Obertan refused to come on as a sub. We should have got beat but the second half was still fun.

  18. GS says:

“Andymac: the U.S. commentators are saying Obertan refused to come on as a sub”

You get the same commentary as we do GS cos you mentioned Ian Darke. Where’d you get that from ?

  19. Who is this Shola Ameobi that had been hiding for 10 years. I think it was his pass that put Ben Arfa through and then that chest pass was brilliant.

  20. “FULL TIME Everton 2-2 Newcastle One of those games you just never want to end. The sort of game you want to tell people about, to exalt for days. Some wonderful play, some pretty abject refereeing, and a narrative that got unlikelier and unlikelier as it went on”

Well done Toon for playing your part.

  21. Ian Darke said it twice. I don’t think it is the same commentary, because they keep mentioning forthcoming matches on ESPN over here and price the players in dollars?

  22. AndyMac says:

“You get the same commentary as we do GS cos you mentioned Ian Darke. Where’d you get that from ?”

Soz we had Sky and Alan Parry so who said that Obertan wouldnt come on ? Was it Darke or co commentator or the pundits ?

  23. I’m off to read Ed’s boys’ comments. They are schizo anyway on there and today’s game would have them bouncing off walls.

  24. AndyMac: it was Darke, the co-commentator was Macmaneman who can hardly put a sentence together never mind give out useful information.

  25. GS says:

“AndyMac: it was Darke” who said Obertan refused to come on.

Oh yes perleassssse let that be his last ever appearance in a black and white shirt :)
