Extended MOTD highlights, postmatch interviews and punditry.

A fairly uninspiring first half performance from the Magpies was punished by a goal from Villa’s Ciaran Clark after he breezed past United’s centre backs to connect with a Barry Bannan cross in the 22nd minute. However once Pardew did what he should have done in the first place and switched to a 4-3-3 after the break, once again we were saved by a piece of brilliance from one of the usual suspects, Hatem Ben Arfa, after an hour. His excellent goal was some reminiscent of his first goal for Newcastle United against Everton.

The Magpies almost claimed an unlikely victory in an excellent stoppage time strike from Yohan Cabaye. Unfortnately for the Magpies though, Brad Guzan produced an excellent save for the Villans to help tham leave St James’ Park with a point.

  1. i’ve just seen pardew’s inteview, and i must say, technology has really improved!!!
if you look really closely, i swear you cannot see the strings!!!, apart from when he looked at his watch, and it was a different hand.
they must be using be using the same technique, they used on, “starfleet x bomber”, where they control them from the bottom.
i couldn’t understand a word of the inteview, as it went something like this; “filobba, filobba, hello little weed”.

“did everything just turn weird or is it just me…New layout??”

“Weird” in what way, nufc? There haven’t been any big changes to the layout on here for a while.

  3. worky, the old saying, “it takes allsorts to make a world”, was never more apt.
that lasses mother and father, should seriously take her to see someone, A.S.A.P.
if i was pardew, i would be sticking my backside, out of the front door first.
he should start worrying, if he gets letters, asking for requests to, “play misty for me”.
though it could have it’s merits, if he is lured away, to an isolated cabin somewhere, and have his legs smashed between concrete block and tackle.
that way he’ll be out of the way, and then we might actually start playing football lol.

  4. pardew said it was a funny newcastle lambert must of thought the same thats three prem games spurs chelsea villa that we have gave a 45 minute head start do that against everton and the game could be over by half time need to drop cabeye and cissie to the bench thats 3 games they have not showed up for players no they can play poor week in week out as we havent got the class players to push them bigi did realy well anita looks a class rb deasont crosses as well

  5. Problem is, Chris-he can’t drop Cisse unless he goes to a single forward formation. Not saying he should do that (I think service/the yawning chasm between midfield & attack are the problems) but you see how he’s shackled unless he changes formation.

Speaking of shackled, I could never justify to myself taking a player like Ben Arfa and tying him to the sideline & a fullback for whom he has to cover. It’s a waste.

Is it just me or are there 6 first team players on the injury list over there?!

Glad to hear that Bigirimana did well. Looks like we need him.

  6. tunyc he could play 433 and have ba up on his own as what ive seen ba has made more effort than cissie ba has worked hard its like u said its from midfield to the strikers cabeye has played a stinker so far besides the free kick last minute against villa his corners free kicks have been well below par if pards dropped him to the bench might be the kick up the backside he needs anita looks a great rb

good stuff not a fan of the welsh but im a fan of good football and they have had a dream start good luck to them.

  8. i must admit im getting a bit peeved with pards condescending tone of late?

im still a big fan but he needs to understand that we are not mugs who will swallow his last few comments. more football chat and less bollocks please.

villa was a huge game for us and i was worried as we tend to struggle with teams like that coming and parking the bus hitting us on the couter! (inevitable and predictable) but what was the most worrying for me was that double demba playing 4 4 2 doesnt work! he has to drop one of them and id like to see cisse drop down and ba take a more central role flanked uptop by hba and marveaux and at least we have a realistic option from the bench.

thought santon had his best game so far in a toon shirt and young biggi did well but as a team we were all over the place! its taken capt collo to come out and say it isnt good enough but pardew should be saying more about our faults and defending than about us thanking ashley for not selling anyone

  9. geordiedug, he’s been doing the same routine, since he was appointed.
i’m sure it was one of the main reasons he got the gig, was his penchant for talking absolute balls.
the trouble with his patter is, it’s all written down, in black and white, and people have long memories.
freddie shepherd in his own words, said, “geordies dont forget”, i dont know how it works down in london, but it wont wash up here.
you could probably go back and look at his past interviews, and all you will find are inconsistencies, back tracking, praise for ashley etc.
the whole thing is nothing more than some really low rent propaganda machine.

you only have to look at the back page of tonights chronicle, to see how it works.
there is a story with pardew praising bigiramina’s debut, on the suface, it looks innocent, but in reality, it’s another mind game by ashley, being vocalised by pardew.
bigiramana is signed, under the premise of him being a young development player, but that is complete rubbish.
that kid has been bought to slot straight into the first team, and another one for the shop window, which is the pitch of st james’ park.
the same thing with amalfitano, he has been part of nearly all the pre season games.

ashley has no intention of spending any money on established players, it is the same experiment, he has been carrying out, since he arrived.
even if he does spend money, he recoups it straight back.
cisse was bought for 9 million i think, so that meant, in the summer, that had to start being made back, hence trying to raise funds from best etc.
i think he would have been looking to sell more players ie, cabaye, tiote etc, but i think swome of the clubs are getting wise to him now, so he was thwarted.
i reckon he would have been as sick as a parrot, that no one stepped up to buy his wares.

some people think ashley is daft, but he isn’t , he is carrying out a carefully orchestrated scam, running like a pyramid system.
you have ashley at the top, who very rarely gets seen, and who people who work for him, will find it difficult to get an audience, at jabba’s sail barge.

then you have llambias, who will be told only a small part of what’s happening, and who is hardly ever there, by all accounts.

then you will have charnley who will give his instructions to graeme carr, probably to scout 4 senior players, and four development players.
once he has handed in his list, i think ashley will look at it, and go out to sign the four young players, for next to nowt.
the four senior players, i think he will sign one of the four, then have no intention of signing any of the others, but give the impression, they are trying to do so.
graeme carr has done his job, so you cannot have go at him.
they then drag out the saga across the summer, with stories, probably put out by themselves, to keep the fans on tenderhooks.
when the windows shuts they know the fans will be livid, so they go into hiding, and put pardew front and centre, to use his patter merchant talents, well personally i dont think he’s that good at it, the amount of times, he trips himself up.

the story tonight is really them trying to make a statement, about their so called policy, this kid is being bigged up, pardon the pun, with the intention of them looking like the big i am’s, and trying to make it look like they know what they are doing.
pardew can try and bask in the glory, but he’s had the kid thrust upon him, without any say so, the same thing they tried with keegan, who wouldn’t have it.

when it comes to their policy though, there isn’t one imo, it’s just whatever they can get for next to nothing, that comes with carr’s stamp of approval.
they then hope the young’uns come good to sell them on, which is a small part of the agenda, the fans are told, which is put across, as it’s for our own good, and the club, it’s actually pretty facsist, in it’s approach
how many times have we had the paternal admonishments, from the so called hierachy.
we’ve had ashley lying about death threats, also trying to turn events, to blame the fans.
we’ve had the same sort of crap, from llambias, trying to bollock all unsundry.

they have also used the same tactics, to try and force players out of the club, so they can make money.
we all know what happened with carroll, they got joe kinnear to start something with n’zogbia, so he would leave.
i wonder who was behind the flyers, being left in tyneside pubs, about steven taylor being hated at the club?

when you stand back and look at the big picture, it looks like a complete scam, and a conspiracy.

  10. All good contributions today, enjoyed reading them especially Geordiedug’s and TJ’s, who appears to be consumed with angst atm :)

I too read the article on Laudrup and couldnt help but comment on,

“To go back to Barcelona, this is what they do: they say, ‘When we have the ball, we need a lot of players near the ball, so when we lose it we have a lot of players near the ball to win it back”

As opposed to “Pardiola’s” philosophy of keeping the players as far apart as possible and hoofing balls up the middle !

geordiedug. I never thought I’d be writing “to be fair” about Alan Pardew to you of all people; but to be fair, if it wasn’t Pardew, it would be someone else. It’s the Faustian pact he had to enter into to get the gig and though he is something of a slick used car salesman, I’m pretty sure he’d prefer to be getting some proper backing, rather than be constantly making excuses for Ashley and Llambias’s sleight of hand with the club’s finances.

Even though I don’t think he’s the greatest manager in history and I don’t agree with his tactics on many occaisions, even so, I think we should acknowledge that overall, the football people at the club have performed some miracles despite rather than because of the gruesome twosome. In other words I think we should focus our ire at the owner and the managing director. As their mouthpiece though, I do wish that Pardew wouldn’t attack his brief with quite so much relish, especially when it involves patronising and deceiving the fans so often.

“and this article isnt exactly going to endear Mr Starforth to the Fatman but needs to be said by someone from the “local” media.”

Nah, I’m not sure if I agree, Andy. It dresses itself as some kind of critique about Ashley’s lack of first team signings in the last window, but then continues to push the same old fallacious guff about how nonetheless, the only alternative to the Ashley approach is to go back to signing Michael Owen and Patrick Kluivert, how the Newcastle model is now the envy of the whole Premier League, how Ashley’s parsimony will give the bairn’s a chance to shine like Jermaine Jenas at 18 and so on… That last point is very fair comment in itself but again is just a rationalisation for Ashley’s bollocks.

If I were the slimmer of the year, I’d actually be rather pleased with “criticism” like that. As a “critique” it ends up being just a “Trojan Horse” to trot out the same old propaganda.

  13. If you’d bothered your r’s to read the whole thing WT you’d have to agree with…..

“But there’s a fine line between financial prudence off the field and ambition on the pitch”

“Still, it’s difficult to argue that United’s prospects this term wouldn’t have been improved by a couple more signings, though the squad could still be improved at the turn of the year…..but the January transfer window’s usually a car crash for buying clubs”

Remember most local journo’s run the risk of “excommunication” from the Court of St James’ to even suggest we could be doing better. Maybe its Starforth’s parting shot after getting a proper journo job with The People :)

Andy, if you’d bothered your r’s to read the whole of my pieces, you’d know that the Chronic and the People are the same thing. They’re all Trinity Mirror titles like the Mirror itself, and the Journal incidentally. It’s not unusual for Chronic and Journal writers to do the NE football bits in the People. He’s also following in the footsteps of dear Anal, so I’d hardly call it a “proper journo job” :-)

  15. WORKEY @10
Yeah, Laudrup was a terrific player and i can understand your hero worship, but as a EPL manager it’s early days.
Sure so far he’s done well, but it’s a hard grind thirty eight league games and the cup games too.
Talk to me at the end of the season.

As for your defense of AP, we know Ashley and Llambias dont give a rats ass about NUFC, other than as a business.
But niether of them can do the harm that AP can, he is the guy in charge of who and when and how.
Sure he’s a political appointment who will do anything required by Ashley.
Llambias ! he’s a joke, with no real role, Ashley makes all the decisons, of which providing the readies is the most important.
Whereas AP (possibly the PL’s worst manager)in spite of last seasons finish.
So like Laudrup, lets see what happens this season ?

You dont have an ironic smiley otherwise I would have used it. Jeez how could anybody not know The People and The Mirror are all part of the same group – cos you kindly inform us on an almost daily basis :)

However on to matters more pertinent, the spin machine has been wound up at SJP as the headlines

“We havent sold our best players” and “Chasing Ince for January” are produced to assuage the faithful who are definitely not happy right now :)

  17. andymac, the sad thing about is, anal oliver comes across now, as a proper journalist, compared to lee ryder.
the bloke is more dishevelled than, “kolcak, the night stalker”, it’s as though the chronic have pulled him out of a pub lock in, and said, “here son!, we’re short of a hack, do you want a go”.
he must have served his apprenticeship on the back of a cornflakes packet.
