Have we heard the last of all the Coloccini cobblers now?

Fabricio Coloccini.
Captain Colo: The latest vistim of made up media stories?
There has been much talk amongst fans in the past few weeks on the situation with Newcastle United’s captain, Fabricio Coloccini.

While there is no doubt that the player is having personal problems at the moment, that he made a request to go back and join his family in Argentina, and that one of his previous clubs, San Lorenzo (where Coloccini’s father Osvaldo works as a youth coach) tried to take advantage of the player’s personal problems by making an audacious attempt to sign the player for free, and finally that the situation has now been resolved until the end of this season at least, there have been other things have been repeated as facts in the media which were completely unsubstantiated.

Is this just the usual dishonest media tripe? Or was a “deep throat” who was party to the negotiations leaking information?

One example without a byeline in the Daily Express confidentally proclaimed:

“Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini will not be joining Argentine outfit San Lorenzo but has left St James’ Park to return home to Argentina. The 31-year-old captain has reportedly told Newcastle officials he does not want to play another game for the club.”

The title of that piece was “FABRICIO COLOCCINI ‘REFUSES TO PLAY ANOTHER GAME FOR NEWCASTLE UNITED'”

A few hours after the piece was published, Coloccini turned up for training at Newcastle United’s Benton training ground as usual. However, you might notice that the “refuses to play another game for Newcastle United” was sandwiched between inverted commas as if to suggest it was a quote, and yet the piece itself had nothing whatsoever to substantiate it’s claims.

Another one by one the Independent’s Martin Hardy, who has been the main instigator of the recent Coloccini fairytales was titled “Mike Ashley threat of court action if Fabricio Coloccini quits St James” and yet once again there was absolutely nothing in the piece itself to substantiate the claim of the title or anything that follows. The piece began:

“Fabricio Coloccini has been informed he will face legal action if he carries out his threat to walk out of Newcastle during the transfer window.

“Coloccini told Newcastle officials on Wednesday he would not play for the club again after prolonged talks to broker a solution to his desire to leave this month had broken down…”

It continued later:

“Newcastle executives, backed by club owner Mike Ashley, have warned the player that any breach of his contract will lead to a legal fight, and their position is strong, given that Coloccini signed a new, four-year contract last year to extend his time in the North-east.

“In recent months Coloccini has sought to return to his native country for personal reasons, and had hoped his current club would take that into consideration, and allow him to return to Argentina, where his wife is believed to have headed.

“However, Newcastle and Ashley have stood firm in their position that they would not allow the player to leave on a cheap deal and have told the player it will cost him £7m to buy out his contract.”

So he claims to have intimate knowledge on the subject, yet he doesn’t even know for certain whether Coloccini’s wife is in Argentina or not? Howay man! Not all Geordies are that daft.

Which leaves the qustion, could certain pieces of information about the negotiations have come from some kind of informant who was a party to the negotiations? Someone like Coloccini, his agent, or someone who was working on the “other side” of the negotiations like the club’s Managing Director, Derek Llambias, or one of his agents? Bearing in mind the way it portrays Coloccini himself, as petulant and willing to walk out on his responsibilities at the club it would be highly unlikely to be the former. Though sadly, if indeed someone from the club’s hierarchy leaked this information, it wouldn’t have been for the first time the club have circulated smear stories to the media since it has been under the ownership of Mike Ashley.

Whatever happened and whatever the motives, perhaps the most striking thing is the way such stories are still believed as fact so easily by so many with no substantiation whatsoever, despite the real fact that so many so called “journalists” have lied so many times for so long in the past in order to titillate.

Coloccini’s letter to San Lorenzo translated.

  1. Telegraph reporting NUFC have bid £12million for Wilifred Bony!

He would be a fantastic striker 2 bring in, absolute beast!

  2. You called it spot on Worky to be fair but I never thought our usually frugal board would have sanctioned an offer like that-especially considering we’ve already spent around £20 million on some cracking players.

I’d love to see him in black and white but wonder what kind of formation that would need to get the best from him and Cisse?

    Tricky

  3. not a chance dude showed his colours time to get rid cant beleive we still chating about this whats the fella got to do spit in ya face before half the idiots sticking up for him get the message

  4. Do we want a guy playing for the club that hates being here ?
Think we should give him a one way ticket, to Buenos Aires (first class) and tell him thanks for the memories.
And oh! he can take Jonas with him.

Cause we just got a whole team of Frenchmenand n’ Africans.

Question is who are we gonna play during the next African Championship and when Engerland play France, do we yell alez les bleus ! or howeah Engerland ?

  5. According to the Sunday Telegraph (before you ask me for my source) it’s rumored NUFC is chasing the Ivorian striker Wilf Bony, with a roughly $20m. offer made.
And Worky wants a scouting fee, if not a scouting job for NUFC, as it’s rumored he’s getting pretty tired of some of the people commenting on his blog and constant breakdowns of the blogs server hardware.
Now please these are only rumors, dont hang the messenger.

Toon, I’m neutral on Colo in the piece as I don’t know the ins and outs of his family affairs, nor should I as that’s his business. However he is a cheeky get if he thought he could just walk out on his contract. He’s a should be multimillionaire from football, mostly from Newcastle United so if his need to walk out is so strong, he should offer to buy himself out of his contract.

What I do know though is three things:

    1. That the football media are a dishanest lot who will make up anything if they thought they could get away with it.

    2. That Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias are lying duplicitous bastards just like the media and would also do practically anything if they thought they could get away with it too.

    3. Some people are so gullible they actually believe this shite in the media that’s put out there without the slightest shred of proof, no matter how many times they have been lied to in the past. Lots of blogs just copy and paste the same drivel without questioning it because it’s easy.

    Daddy, Daddy Coooool
    Daddy, Daddy Coooool!

They call him the new Drogba because he comes from the Ivory Coast, but he looks a bit like Shearer to me too, only with a suntan and a few dreadlocks. He very strong and powerful and good at using that to make space for himself in the box.

  8. Staying on topic: Have we heard the last of all the Coloccini cobblers now? – I doubt it.

Off topic, I’ve been missing your blogs Worky and had to even chime in on one or two others, but see that you have been posting all along. It’s been quite a week for the club. I wonder if your view of the hierarchy has budged at all in the light of all the cash that’s been splashed this past week? It seems that we might turbo-charge ourselves out of the drop zone…

  9. heard there was bids coming in for simpson hope the club smart enough to turn them down its all hands to the pump til the end of the season and hes experiened player, would rather lose him for nothing at the end of the season meself than take 400k now for him

  10. If we can sign bony lad this will be the best transfer window ever for us, but you still have to say it is being done because they dropped a huge bollock in the summer.
Worky@8 its not just blogs who cut and paste, some of the so called “news” sites do it all the time it drives me mental.

  11. we’ve definately heard the last of that s***e, until the summer.
the only was he was ever going to get out of his contract, was if there was extenuating circumstances, like heaven forbid, a family member was terminally ill, and newcastle would have looked heartless, keeping him to it, so they might have cancelled it themselves.

it’s now obvious it’s another story of a fantasy land footballer, and their bull lifestyle.
if he’s been playing around, then he’s been caught, man up and take the consequences.
you were not thinking of your troubles and strife, when you were playing hide the sausage.

the thing was always going to end predictably, he was going to get sued for breach of contract, and san lorenzo were living in dreamland, if they thought they were going to sign him.

he’s been a good servant, but he’s coming up to 32, so the summer will be the right time, to let him go, for what ever pittance, we can still get for him.

  12. i wonder how homesick collo would be, if one of the so called big boys, came in with a bid for him?

He’s got the club in the shit again with poor decisionmaking, panic bought £12 million’s worth of players half a season too late and we still have a shit manager. What’s so great about that Paul?

  14. Watching Daddy Cool brought back memories of George Weah; he looks exceptionally strong but seems to have quick feet. I’d love to see him arrive but the 12 million quid bid seems highly unlikely especially after pardew made comments about Zaha! Although I’m annoy with myself for attaching any meaning to his comments because the only thing certain about Pardew when he speaks is that he’ll contradict himself in the not to distant future. The idea that he has vision to carry us forward is a joke, I doubt be can even walk in a straight line instead he spins & spins creating a nice little whirlpool which eventually will drag us only one way, still for now I’m boyed by the lifeboat signings.:-)

  15. Any speculation on our team for Tuesday.

Personally I think it would be a mistake to chuck all of the new lads in straight.

    Possible return for Staylor?

Collo is obviously going one way or another at some point, are there any players we could take from San Lorenzo to sweeten a no fee deal?

  16. “Personally I think it would be a mistake to chuck all of the new lads in straight away”

Well actually Worky, the previous poor decision led to this current dilemma so that part we knew. I don’t see these new players as being panic buys but rather well thought out with even Wenger saying we bought well. With regard to still having a shit manager, I would imagine that Mike Ashley has at least told Derek that if Alan can’t make a go of it now, he’s out the door, 8-year “contract” or no 8-year “contract”.

    Aye, it would danny.

  22. Paul in Hollywood: I would be panicking as well after the mess we/he made of the second half against Reading. Ashley was in the stands and I really didn’t think Pardew would last the weekend.

If we get less than 3 points from the next 3 games there has to be a reassessment of Pardew’s position. Or does he have dorty pictures of Ashley (not Llambias coz he already did a streak)

I just got the “Boney M” reference. It would be funny if they play Daddy Cool after he scores. Like Pigbag at Boro but not lame. We have to get him first.

  23. With the club taking on a rather French look and feel can anyone confirm that the manager has changed his name to Alan depardew!! Ha ha its the way I tell them. Viva LA toon!

  24. Worky: one of your regulars seems to have gone off his trolley. Maybe it is drunk typing. I have done that before.

  25. He looks a good finisher Wilfred Bony, doesn’t panic at all just calmly places it. He looks like a penalty taker as well which is something we could do with.

  26. aye Worky you were on the ball there wiv Bony…wonder if Mr Carr reads .org :-)
he looks a good player, well capable ov scoring n terrorizing defenders in the prem.would finish a great transfer window for us.also for the 1st time i cant knock Ashley for putting his hands in them deep pockets.even if this rumoured Bony deal does’nt happen,we should still have the squad to get us out ov trouble n finish mid table.surely Pardew cant fk this up!!!
mind he still needs to go in the summer regardless ov wot happens.

Well he took my advice on Cisse though not Vertonghen, unless that was just Ashley being a greedy **** again.

One of my little favourites who I’ve been watching in the Eredivisie for a long while now is AZ Alkmaar’s Adam Maher, who was top player at 18 and he’s only 19 now. He’s a little phenomenon who’s already been a full international for the Netherlands. We’ll be too late if we don’t get him soon.

    Check him out.

  28. Just read an article on news now, a ridiculous attempt at a hatchet job on Chris Hughton, by “Newcastle Utd.- mad.co.uk, whoever they are ?
Titled , “the reason Ashley sacked Hughton”
Relating his sacking to a failure to send out a competitive side during a cup game.
When one compares Hughtons failure, with the cup history of Pardew, then he too should have been fired.
But my point is, who is Newcastle Mad ?
And why are they going out of their way to make this point, ridiculous as it is.
Hopefully this does’nt signify some kind of official support for keeping our biggest impediment to any success, yeah talking bout Pardew.

  29. chuck, it’s a broad forum, where most clubs in britain have their own page, and people starting their own threads.
you can also have banter between clubs boards aswell, it’s gets a bit out of hand at times.
i think toonsy is a regular on the newcastle board.

You must have noticed them by now Chuck? I dont really read their blogs for obvious reasons (if you’ve seen them) but they’ve been around for a long while. It’s a franchise blog from “Footy Mad” or something like that.

  31. I realize everyone is charged at the though of getting Bony, many having watched his videos.
Sure he looks terrific, but that’s what videos are for, selectively showing the positives.
But lets look a his history, he scored a total of 12 goals last season, not bad when considered he only got 28 games.
With a sofar total of 15 goals out of 16 games, pretty phenomenal rate, but will that continue against EPL sides.
His best year prior to the above seasons, was a total of 9 and 10 goals respectively for Sparta Prague.
I’m not trying to dampen the euphoria of what may be, or Workys triumphalism on and taking credit for directing the clubs attention to Boney (i really think he should get a piece of change out of this)
But lets not get carried away with the idea, he’s gonna be the new Shearah !
    You know a messianic figure.
Oh! almost forgot, does he get the no.9# shirt ?

  32. Maybe Pardew will try reverse psychology and give Bony the number 9 off Cisse’s back :) You know, to give him that extra motivation. I wouldn’t put it past him.

He scored 18 goals last season and 22 this season so far Chuck.

Not everyone just watches YouTube clips.

  34. Yes Worky, i’ve been aware of them for some time, but never paid particular attention to them (Footy-Mad)
I just dont get why at this particular time with all the excitement of our new signings and the possibility of acquiring Bony, having most fans salivating.
They would want to do a hatchet job on Hughton, though it appears he purposly fielded a weakened side against Luton.
Hell could’nt have been any weaker than Pardews against Brighton.
I believe both knew they were nowher near capeable of winning anything and simply decided to concentrate on survival in the PL, where the money is.
    Hey, makes sense to me.
But proves the point, that the FA cup has been relegated to a minor level in to-days game.
Sad really, the fact that the big bucks have become more important than silverware.

  35. Thought I would answer my own question and looked at the San Lorenza team listings on Wiki.

There is a fan rating system and I’ve come up with a few names, their age, where they play and the rating given for them.

    Voboril,defence m/c/l 25, 82

    Gentiletti, def, 28, 85

    Prosperi, Midfield, 27, 85

    Stracqualursi, Striker, 25, 86

    Jara, Striker, 24, 86

There are obviously more but these are the highest rated ones.
Don’t know how good they are or if they ratings are very accurate but as they are fan based could be swaps worth looking at.

If anyone knows owt about them!!

  36. Wicky, has him scoring 12 goals and being tenth on the list of Eredivisie scorers for the 2011/12 season.

  37. Grumpy

Apart from both strikers, i believe the rest are over the age cap (stupid) and yes i have watched Stracqualursi, ( a mouthfull for the fans to find a chant for) he’s decent.
San Lorenzo, never a club that matched up well with it’s Buenos Aires neighbors the more successful Boca and River sides though.
Guess it depended on which neighborhood you were from, as to who you supported.

  38. aye Worky he’s a talent that kid.picked out some great passes there, that lob ower the keeper tho, what a finish..ad never heard ov him….have you seen that Marco van Ginkel? he looks another kid with a bright future.

  39. Worky, they may be overage as per current criteria but if any of them could be worked as a swap we would be getting younger players.

I watched a U-tube video of Franco Jara, I know that U-tube isn’t the best indicator but he looked good, currently on loan to Benfica.

As MA is obviously an avid fan of your blog, perhaps he might consider this as an option.

    Over to you Mr ashley.

  40. Workyticket says: “Which previous poor decision were you referring to Paul?’

Well, it was in response to your comment: “He’s got the club in the shit again with poor decision making…” I took that to mean not having purchased players in the summer, now forcing him into “panic buying” (your words).

Please let me know if I stand corrected, or what you meant by saying “He’s got the club in the shit again…”

  41. Delusional, Shefti Kuqi was a panic buy as was Lovenkrands (although he wasn’t too bad)

The current crop of new players all look to be measured, considered acquisitions who should strengthen the team immensely. As many have already stated it would take a total idiot to f*ck it up.

    Over to you Mr Pardew

  42. Nah! players like Lovenkrands, Williamson, Raylor,
well i’m sure you get the picture.
These were buys made IMO when he realized what he had got himself into by buying a big ticket item and the operating costs involved.
    They were cheap.

He was getting ready to dump it at the first decent offer, which never came, as far as we know.

Apart from a couple of local chancers and insane bids from around the world, that were obviously bogus.

I guess he must have re-evaluated things and decided that he could actually make some money, with a bit of luck and some investment.

Having observed the increasing tv revenues plus the possibility of linking club owneship with advertising for his real business.

It’s true i believe that the recent splurging on players was caused by panic, stemming from a fear of the drop, already experienced once.
And something to not be repeated, for obvious reasons.

Same thing with Fernandez at QPR, spend whatever it takes, the wost thing you could end up with is a good side for next season.

But to end up in the second tier with the side we had, prior to our recent signings, would have been devestating, as i doubt whether we had prepared for such an eventuality.

Being i believe none of top management expected we would be in our present position following a top five finish.

More likely a mid league spot and i’m sure according to early polls, many expected to finish around eight to tenth position this season.

Well if thats what it takes to get Ashley off the dime and invest, were in luck, as we should be in for some good football plus hopefully some wins.

I’m not going to repeat the most obvioust problem with the club, as i’m sure everyone has realised what that is by now.

So dont knock panic, it can sometimes be the answer.
But then what hell do i know?

Well he’s also made other mistakes too such as allowing Llambias, an idiot who less than nothing about football as Keegan rightly said, sack Hughton and bring in a poor quality manager. Also, as well as not buying players, he also let several players move on and so on and that’s not all, There are also other things which might seem like a good thing at the moment, but which may backfire in the course of time.

he’s a one dimensional, deluded, generic halfwit, who the players shouldn’t listen to.

the only way to turn alan pardew into a good football coach, is by opening his mouth, and sticking a hundred and odd seats, in there.

  48. I have seen in the press and other blogs that people are worried about how well the new Frenchies will adapt. So much so that they are saying Pardew should hold back and not put MBiwa, Sissoko and Gouffran straight into the team. They say they are coming from a lower quality league.

Well, our other Frenchies seemed to adapt quickly enough, Cabaye and Ben Arfa, then Marveaux once he finally got over his injury. The jury is out on Debuchy.

The only one to struggle was the one who had a few seasons at Old Trafford.

I think if they are good players they will adapt although I am sure people will have many examples of good players who didn’t work out (Forlan etc.).

I am a bit more excited now. So much so that I will go and watch the Villa game in the pub that I have been too embarrassed to show my face at recently. Mainly because there has been an inevitability about our performances and I just didn’t want to be there in a bad mood.

  56. What possible benefit would I get from denying that I had been on the Mackem boards?

I saw Sissoko is definitely starting against Villa. You can read into that that either Pardew doesn’t want to tip his hand or he is undecided about Gouffran and MBiwa.

I’t might do him some good if he attended some of the classes, if i’m honest.

Wile mentioning AP, it appears he has come to the defence of Colo., in regard to the recently published letter to San Lorenzo.
Stating there was a lot lost in the interpretation.
I guess we will blame WORKY for that, hell i told him to leave the rough translation alone, but he insisted on what appears to now be a screwed up version though in readable English, ah well!

There’s also an article in the French press, on what has attracted so many French players to Newcastle ?
Whats the matter with those people the all live under a rock somewhere ?
Have the never heard of the delights of Whitley Bay, the sea food extravagansas of North Shields (well decent fish and chips) The nightlife of The Big Market and Quayside, the local cuisine, Stotty cakes, Savaloys and pease-pudding, not to mention the gregg chain of pastie makers.
But i’m sure some disillusioned souls will think they only came for the money, hell what do they know.

  59. worky, rick parkinson probably had more credibility than barry moat lol.
if barry took over the club, he would have put his son raoul, as head of security.

“Well, one report has it we have yet to make a bid on wor Wilfie (Bony)
Another has Vitesse playing Coy, so we are in the dark on that one, but I’m sure it has taken the wind out of a few sails, having some salivating at the prospect.”

Chuck, quite a few journos read this site and follow it on Twitta. Perhaps one of them just saw my story on here and it inspired them to write a story that would titillate fans?

    About the same Joe.

From the little I’ve seen of Ashley’s hired in henchmen at SJP, Raoul Moat would have probably have been an improvement if he hadn’t shot himself.

Yes the Byker Wall, i believe that fairly recently a group, probably City Management people had threatened to tear it down.
Of course it being a controversial piece of architecture you either love it or hate it.
Much like some of the Stalinist type flats built in the early post war years.
Which are in fact now being reconsidered and in fact given a cetain protection, they being examples of an era and given a certain status, like any, period example.

On some bloggers doing a bit of duplication.
Yes i have noticed that, having read a number of articles that sounded very much like something i had written on here.
Coincidence ? possibly, but nevertheless, i wonder.

Very sensible. Perhaps he got that one from Steed Malbranque, who in his warning to Pardew about French factionalism recalled how Jean Tigana did that very thing at Fulham when it was getting a bit French there years back.

Yes and no Chuck, even Ashley pays more wages at the French clubs but I suspect many of them also want to be in the Premiership spotlight and pique the curiousity of teams like Chelsea, Man U / City, Arsenal etc for an even bigger payday like Demba Ba.

The best fish and chips I’ve ever had are the ones from the (appropriately named for a Toon fan) Magpie cafe in Whitby. It’s widely reknowned for it’s fish, chips and mushy peas and they are absolutely spot on.

“about the the Colo situation.the noises coming out ov NUFC n especially pardews mouth is “he’ll play untill the summer”..then wot?has adeal been agreed that if he stays n we avoid the drop then he can leave the club n fk off wherever?..something has been put in place IMO,but wot?..only the cowboys running the club can answer that question.”

The issue may well come up again after the end of the season Jack.

I didn’t mention the Byker wall, Trojan Joe did. No you either hate or hate the Stalinist type flats that you would describe as the “Projects” over there.

Some were popular at the time mostly because some of the housing poor people were coming out of was so poor but opinions certainly changed over the long term. I can only think of two or three exceptions, Erno Goldfinger’s (the inspiration for the Bond villain as he knew Ian Fleming) Trellick Tower down here in the smoke which was an exceptional example, the Barbican flats which were built for posh people around one of London’s major Art centres, and the aforementioned Byka waal.

  66. the AZ Alkmaar coach has come out n said “Adam Maher will be a ‘perfect’ fit for Arsenal n will develop into a world class player there.”…shame it wasnt the toon he was on about.

  67. Worky, not really mate I was just exploring the possibilities of getting a couple of good Argies in to replace Collo when (rather than if), he departs for San Lorenzo. Can’t see why the squad shouldn’t benefit rather than him going off for nowt. Still thanks for the info.

Be nice to get Argie players in before our next war with them, just cannot keep their fingers out of the Falklands can they.

Chuck, we have Greggs in the SE of England as well, we all benefit from their carbohydrate largesse.

Well, there’d be no point in reading Ed’s unless they wanted to plagiarize themselves, or else know what they had written.
