The Magpies face a tricky Toffee test on Monday.
Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool.
Date: Mon 30th Sep, 2013.

Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffs).
UK TV: Sky Sports.

Everton vs Newcastle United, or indeed, Newcastle United vs Everton is always an interesting encounter, a kind of benchmark as in recent times, they have been the closest side to ours in terms of the strength of our respective squads.

Above, there is a runaway top six (you know who they are), with a big gap separating them from Newcastle United and Everton. Then, behind the magpies and the Toffees there is another chasm, until we find a chasing pack consisting of the likes of Blunderland, the rapidly rising Swansea and Southampton squads, moving down through the Aston Villas, the West Broms and so on down to the poorest, Hull, Crystal Palace and Cardiff. Hence, it should should usually be a very close game.

Thinking about Newcastle vs Everton in very recent seasons, I usually end up recalling Alan Pardew’s comments about the two respective teams back in May 2012, one of those classic ‘foot in mouth’ moments he does so well. Whilst it was widely quoted that Pardew said Newcastle United “operate in a different league” to Everton, what he actually said was more like: (more…)

Newcastle United vs Leeds United match preview (and a few Yorkshireman jokes!)

September 24th, 2013 | 32 Comments |

Alan Pardew and Brian McDermott.
The men in black go into battle once again.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Weds 25th Sep, 2013.
Kick off: 7.45pm.
Referee: Mike Jones (Chester).
UK TV: None.

This game will see Alan Pardew taking on his Reading protege Brian McDermott once again. Of course, the last time they met as opponents was when McDermott was manager of Reading, and predictably, two of the great masters of “route one” football served up a festival of long balls with Reading eventually coming out as the 2-1 victors. McDermott’s latest side certainly aren’t setting the Championship table on fire right now though, being 13th with 11 points after 8 games.

The return of Agent Bruce! Newcastle United vs Hull City match preview

September 20th, 2013 | 32 Comments |

Steve Bruce.
Steve “Dreamboat” Bruce returns to SJP.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle United.
Date: Sat 21st Sep, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (Bradford).
UK TV: None.

This week, the Magpies welcome Steve Bruce back to St James’ Park, this time with his promoted Hull City side.

After a long, long run of poor form, somehow, Alan Pardew goes into this game looking for his third Premier League victory in a row after two one goal victories over toothless Fulham and Aston Villa sides. The last time Pardew and Newcastle managed this feat was almost a year and a half ago back in April 2012. It was actually SIX victories in a row, over Norwich City, West Brom, Liverpool, Swansea City, Bolton Wanderers and finally, Stoke City. That was towards the end of the season when we finished fifth and it’s been pretty much downhill ever since! Here’s hoping we can get the same result as the last time Bruce was at St James’ Park. Of course, that time “Agent” Bruce brought his his Blunderland side to St James’ Park for a comprehensive 5-1 stuffing at the hands of Chris Hughton. (more…)

Aston Villa v Newcastle United.
Hopefully, Benteke will stub his toe on the way to Villa Park!
Venue: Villa Park, Birmingham.
Date: Sat 14th Sep, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Mike Dean.

The resumption of Premier League action after the International break see Newcastle United travelling to Birmingham’s Villa Park for this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa.

Previous results.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa come into this game at 12th and 13th in the Premier League respctively with 4 points to Newcastle United, and 3 to Aston Villa. Looking at their Premier League form so far this season, Aston Villa got off to an excellent start, convincingly beating Arsenal 3-1. However, this was followed by two successive defeats, 2-1 to Chelsea and 0-1 to Liverpool. Meanwhile, as you probably know, Newcastle’s results have been getting steadily better. After a 4-0 mauling by Manchester City in their opening game, this managed a 0-0 draw with West Ham, finally scraping 1-0 win against a toothless Fulham in their last game. (more…)

Newcastle United v West Ham United.
Pardew on probation.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Sat 24th Aug, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffs).

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our “match banter” for today’s first home fixture of the Premier League season, which sees the Magpies taking on Fat Sam’s West Ham.

Pardew on probation.

In Alan Pardew’s last 12 competitive games with Newcastle United, his record is Won 2, Drawn 3, Lost 7, Goals For 7, Goals against 26. With a record like that, the sharks should be circling, and I don’t mean the loan shark from Wronga, who, incidentally, will be staging their first Wronga “experience” at sunny St James’ Park today. One of their new half time pursuits for this season is called “Straight walking football,” where “two fans will race head to head through a course packed with obstacles to test their balance and skill. Whoever keeps their cool and finishes past Teenie and Tynie will take home £150″ (quote from the Hearts website). Think I’ll give that a miss next time I’m at St James’ Park. (more…)
