Monkey hanger massacre! Hartlepool v Newcastle United highlights, post-match interview, report

August 8th, 2012 | 101 Comments |

Highlights from yesterday evening’s monkey hanger massacre at Victoria Park. There are also some other highlights here.

Hartlepool United were trounced 5-1 with Shola Ameobi opening the account for Newcastle after only 3 minutes, latching on to an irresistable low cross right across the face of the Hartlepool goal by new lad, Romain Amalfitano. Sadly though, the big lad picked up some kind of knock just before half time and was out of the game for the second half. (more…)

Newcastle United v S.C.Braga match highlights

Highlights of Newcastle United’s 2-1 victory against S.C. Braga in the pre season “Guadiana Torneo” at the Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal.

It was Demba Ba who opened the scoring in the 64th minute. It was a decidedly lukewarm penalty which was saved by Beto in the Braga goal initially, however Ba made up for it by taking good advantage of the rebound and sticking it in the back of the net at the second attempt. Braga were to equalise four minutes after though with a timely strike by Amorim, but thankfully, it was Ryan Taylor who had the final word with another one of his handy set piece masterpieces in the 73rd minute. Newcastle United v S.C. Braga.
Another stiff test in Portugal!
Date: Friday, 27th July.
Venue: Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal.
Kick off: 8.45pm local and UK time.
UK TV: Live on ESPN UK.

Another day, another game, another Newcastle United team!

Newcastle United’s first game since yesterday sees them facing a Portuguese team who have recently seen themselves breaking the domination of the “big three” of Portuguese club football, Porto, Benfica and Sporting Club of Portugal. Last season, they came third in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, and in the season before that, second. Hence, this should provide another stiff test for the Magpies. However, with the two games in two days format of this “Guadiana Torneo”, John Carver jas stated that Alan Pardew plans to field two almost completely different sides. This should see our Silver Supremo wheeling out far more of the “big guns” for this one, as the side who played Olympiacos yesterday featured quite a few of the bairns and squad players, but we’ll see. As usual, I shall be posting the teamsheets below when they become available. (more…)

Newcastle United v Olympiacos highlights.
Newcastle United v Olympiacos highlights (opens in new window).

Highlights from yesterday evening’s “Guadiana Torneo” match, which saw Newcastle United drawing 1-1 with Greek Super League champions, Olympiacos, at the Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal.

It was Steven Taylor who opened the scoring for the Magpies after 25 minutes on his return from a very long injury layoff. However, Kostas Mitroglou levelled for Olympiacos in the 79th minute, even though they were down to ten men after Francois Modesto was sent off five minutes beforehand for receiving two yellow cards. This meant that the match went to penalties. I won’t tell the result of the penalties if you haven’t seen them yet, but don’t look below if you want to watch them first! (more…)

Hello, good evening and welcome to our match banter feature for this evening’s game, which sees the Magpies facing current Greek Superleague champions, Olympiacos, at the Estádio Algarve, Faro, Portugal.

This will be the first game for the Magpies in the pre season “Guadiana Torneo,” with the next, against SC Braga taking place tomorrow. With two games so close together, our Silver Supremo, Alan Pardew, will be fielding two almost entirely different teams for each game, and on this his assistant, John Carver said:

“It’s a little bit different to last week, we’re now three weeks into the pre-season training. Now we go into a competition format and the manager will play two different teams each night.

“Everybody will play some part. Some will get 90 minutes.” (more…)
