Newcastle v Manchester City – Match banter!

Newcastle take on Manchester City.
Newcastle take on Manchester City.
Welcome one and all to our fabulous match banter article that will take us through the Manchester City game this afternoon.

I trust you have all had a most excellent Christmas day and now feel suitably fed up with turkey and all the usual goings on that revolve around the festive period, so what better way is there to get back to normality than a bit of football.

There is no risk of the game being called off today so we can look forward to the visit if Manchester City and the prospect of trying to send them home without anything to show for their efforts.

As I mentioned in my match preview, City lost their last game against Everton and will no doubt be looking to bounce back to title chasing form against a Newcastle side that got back to winning ways against Liverpool in their last outing. (more…)

Carver set for Newcastle return?

Come home John, please!
Come home John, please!
The Daily Mail is reporting that John Carver could be set to return to Newcastle and complete Alan Pardew’s backroom staff setup by becoming our new number two.

Carver has been is temporary charge of Sheffield United since the departure of Gary Speed, but any hopes of him getting the job full time at Bramall Lane have been dashed by the fact that Port Vale have given The Blades permision to talk with their manager, Micky Adams about the vacancy.

If that does go ahead then I expect that Adams will want to bring in his own man, just like Pardew is doing, and much like many managers do when they get a new job. That would put Carver out of work and would mean that no compensation would be payable for his services, and we all know that would be to the liking of the club!

Carver is a local lad who was assistant to Sir Bobby Robson when we were flirting with the Champions League. Carver knows Newcastle like the back of his hand, and is respected by a lot of fans. Now whilst it may be a cheap move on behalf of the club, it would also be a very popular move amongst fans who are still perplexed and angry over the sacking of Chris Hughton. (more…)

Newcastle v Manchester City – Match preview.

Do it for Benny!
Do it for Benny!
Newcastle host title chasing Manchester City in a rare Boxing Day match on Tyneside, but in contrast to the plummeting tempaertaures, the atmosphere could be as hot as ever after the ill feeling harvested as a result of the reverse fixture at the City of Manchester Stadium back in October comes to the fore.

Newcastle played really well on the day and deserved much more than they got from the match. Martin Atkinson, the match referee for that game, awarded Man City a penalty for a challenge that was outside the box, but then failed to send Mike Williamson off for being the last man, which should have been the case if it was a foul. He also missed a blatant penalty that should have been awarded to Newcastle after Joleon Lescott hacked down Shola Ameobi in the penalty area. Perhaps the biggest contributing factor to the ill feeling is the fate of Hatem Ben Arfa, who had his leg broke in two places after a lunge by Nigel de Jong. Apparently this was deemed as a fair tackle, and Atkinson waved play on despite the Frenchman being on the ground writhing in pain. (more…)

Merry Christmas from NUFCBlog.org!

Have a cool yule!
Have a cool yule!
I’d just like to take this opportunity on behalf of all us here at NUFCBlog.org to wish each and every one of you a very merry christmas.

May you all have an excellent day tomorrow, or today if you happen to be in certain places around the globe, and enjoy the festivities with friends and family.

This place will still be going, so if you want to escape the festivities or if they are getting too much, then come on here and let off a bit of steam by chatting some football if you wish, although I anticipate that it could be rather quiet throughout the day so you may need to be patient.

Anyway, thanks for putting up with us and making this place what it is as it is you guys that makes the writing wothwhile. As a present I have prepared this picture of me wearing only a thong for you to feast your eyes upon.

Only kidding, don’t panic.

Seriously though, have a good one, and I’ll see you all on the other side in preparation for the game against Manchester City. (more…)

Home comforts this Christmas?
Home comforts this Christmas?
It’s nice for us to have some home comforts at this festive time of year, and I would guess that it is also nice for the players to have some of those comforts aswell.

Well this year they can as Newcastle, rather strangely, play a home match on Boxing Day for the first time in nine years.

There will be no early starts for the players, no commute of several hours just to make the game, and the same applies to most of our fans, apart from the ones who are travelling a distance to go and watch the game of course. A home game on Boxing Day doesn’t happen very often for us, which is why I’d like those fans going to the game to turn the atmosphere into a Christmas cracker.

Traditionally we haven’t had an awful lot to crow about on Boxing Day as results have tended to go against us, but hopefully that will change this Sunday when Manchester City, complete with Balotelli’s silly glove hat thingy, come to St James’ Park. (more…)
