Newcastle United v Manchester United – Match Preview

January 3rd, 2012 | 81 Comments |

Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
Hope he lhas a face like this after the game!
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Date: 4th January 2012
Kick Off: 8.00PM
Referee: Howard Webb
Hair by: Rooney of Croxteth

Manchester United make their seasonal pilgrimage to St James’ Park in what could be viewed, for them anyway, as a tough game – particularly as they seem to be in relative disarray.

Wayne Rooney and a couple of the club’s lesser lights (Darron Gibson and Johnny Evans) allegedly went out for a meal and a few drinkies on Boxing Night. This wasn’t against any of the Manchester club’s rules. However, they subsequently committed the crime of looking decidedly shabby and putting in a poor performance in training.

As a result manager Alex Ferguson threw a strop and dropped them for the home game against Blackburn Rovers. ‘Ol Red Nose was rewarded for his tantrum on his 70th birthday by a defeat from the second-bottom club.

If rumours are to be believed, Mr Rooney is hopping mad about being dropped and fined £200,000 but has managed to “keep his hair on”. (more…)

Does the exit beckon for Tiote?

Newcastle's Tiote allegedly worth £20m to Chelsea.
Chelsea sniffing around?
Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote is rumoured to be on Chelsea’s shopping list for January with – supposedly – a £20m bid in the offing. But would Ashley sell him?

The latest news from the rumour-filled world of Toon speculation has Chelsea considering a £20m bid for Cheick Tiote in January. The report, coming from Brian McNally in the Sunday Mirror, seems to suggest that Tiote would indeed be sold, although only if big bucks are offered.

On the prospect of losing players in January, Pardew said:

It is going to cost a hell of a lot of money, a hell of a lot of money because we’re in that position now.

I think any of our players that get linked to other clubs, those clubs are going to need to know they’ll need to pay a shed load of money to get anyone out of this football club.(more…)

Manchester City vs Newcastle United – What the managers have been saying…

Alan Pardew greets Roberto Mancini.
The Silver Supremo greets the Silver Supremo.
Welcome to our usual round up of what the managers have been saying in the run up to this afternoon’s away game against the team which sounds like a gay anthem, Man City.

For a detailed preview of the match with stats, team news, match details, thoughts on the upcoming game etc, please check out our comprehensive match preview. We will also be posting our regular “match banter” thread, where you can make comments, share streams for the game etc while the match is in progress. This should be going up around and hour before the kick off. Also, we shall be posting our usual report of the game some time after along with highlights when they become available.

Getting back to what the managers have been saying though, we start as usual in the black and white corner with Alan Pardew, who had much to say as always. Even as far back as Monday, Mr.Motivator was blowing his trumpet about today’s City game, with the general themes being “winning” and “belief”. On these themes the Silver Supremo mused:

“Belief comes from results as much as anything. I genuinely think the team believe they can win every game we enter. We will go to Manchester City thinking we can win. (more…)

Everton: potential banana skin?

November 3rd, 2011 | 39 Comments |

Pardew chilled about Everton encounter.
One game at a time
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew keeps ambitions in check ahead of our game against Everton on the weekend.

What exactly is a ‘potential banana skin’? I ask because my local shopkeeper and I were having our daily discussion about life, the universe and everything and he left me with the comment “Everton are a potential banana skin”. Which got me to wondering if a ‘potential banana skin’ is actually just a banana.

Anyway, we’re playing this banana on the weekend and I’m pleased to see that Alan Pardew is keeping a sharp perspective on things. Pardew said:

We have had a great start and have shown a lot of sides to us as a team. But we look no further than that.

We are coming up against a very good established Premier League side in Everton, with a great manager and good players, and you have to respect every team in this division. And that is what we will do for the next game. (more…)
