Toon agree Edgar deal with Burnley?

Lush technique from David
Lush technique from David
When I read a similar news link not long ago, my first genuine thought was that we’d resigned him. But of course I was just being thick. And it seems like Burnley have only now agreed to pay Newcastle United for Canadian defender David Edgar.

According to Sky Sports, The Clarets will pay Newcastle an initial £300,000 for the 22-year-old, with a further six-figure payment payable based on appearances. It would appear we’ve also put in a ‘sell-on’ clause to enable us to make more of any future transfers, when he moves on.

Edgar jumped ship after relegation following the Aston Villa game, in which he was sent off in the remaining few minutes. We had offered him a contract in the summer but he rejected the terms and when Owen Coyle offered him the opportunity of Premiership foootball he signed a four-year deal, with a fee only now being agreed by tribunal.

Edgar has yet to even get amongst the first team squad for a league game since his move to Turf Moor. His solitary outing coming against Hartlepool in the Carling Cup, so perhaps with hindsight he might have been better sticking around. But considering the frugal nature of our current boars would you be willing to play for Sports Direct vouchers and a Pukka Pie bonus scheme? (more…)

Toon seek French flair and goal poacher?

Injection of pace?
Injection of pace?
In contrast to Chris Hughton’s recent statement that he was more than happy with the squad he has leading into the festive period, it’s being reported that Newcastle are interested in signing what be the latest in a line of French wingers.

Apparently following in the footsteps of David Ginola and Laurent Robert, Fabrice Pancrate could be joining us if rumours are to be believed. The reports are coming from France Football, who are generally well regarded in the game with regards their information. Basically, they won’t mention it unless there’s any truth in it.

Of course they are some French boots to fill as both Ginola and Robert offered something unique and exciting to the team. Admittedly, I don’t know anything about this fella but he’s described as a striker/attacking midfielder. He’s currently out of contract after his deal ran out at Paris St Germain, although he’s still training with them. He’s had a loan spell at Real Betis and is apparently being pursued by a number of French and English clubs. He was pursued in the summer by Portsmouth, Everton, Sheff Utd and Burnley.

The suggestion is that our pursuit has come out of the blue and that we now stand at the front of the queue with potentially a deal being struck quite quickly. He’s apparently like **** off a stick, so that could be the pace we’ve been crying out for this season. (more…)
