Has Danny finally found his 'dream date' with Toon?
Has Danny finally found his 'dream date' with Toon?
New signing, Danny Simpson has been revealing his feelings on what it’s like to be Newcastle United player. The 23 year old right back completed his medical yesterday, after agreeing terms in “last ditch talks” with Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood. He also revealed that his below par performance in the last game was due to him carrying an injury.

On the transfer he said:

“I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve wanted this move ever since I walked in the door back in August. I’ve loved every minute!”

Since joining Manchester United as a young trainee, Danny had been shunted out on loan to Royal Antwerp (twice). Then, the poor unfortunate had to suffer the ultimate indignity; a season in hell with the unwashed vagrants at the Stadium of Blight. His life on the road then continued at Ipswich, Blackburn Rovers, then, finally, Newcastle United. Touching on this nomadic lifestyle, he commented:

“It’s hard when you’re going from club to club. This is the first place where it’s really felt like home and to secure my future here is all I’ve ever wanted.

“I can’t wait now for the rest of the season and helping to put this club back where it belongs.

“We’ve had a good start but the job is only half done and I’m happy to be here to help finish it. (more…)

Newcastle United have now confirmed that Danny Simpson is now a permanent signing.

The 23 year old right back has been a regular feature of the Toon’s back four since joining the club on loan from Manchester United in August, putting in some very respectable performances, despite a slightly below par perfomance in our last outing against West Bromwich Albion.

The details are that Simpson has signed a three and a half year deal with the Magpies, and he will continue to wear the Number 12 shirt he wore while on loan.

Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton, who along with assistant, Colin Calderwood, has been involved in intense negotiations over the last few days to secure the player’s signature said:

“We’re delighted to complete a permanent deal for Danny. (more…)

Simpson deal agreed?

Simpson: Deal agreed now?
Simpson: Deal agreed now?
Sky Sports are reporting that a deal has now finally been agreed for Manchester United’s 23 year old on loan right back, Danny Simpson.

Simpson, who has put in a decent shift overall since coming to the Toon in September, played the last game of his loan period agaist West Bromwich on Monday evening.

In the midst of much supposed horsetrading over his wages and contract, it had been thought that Simpson could be returning to Manchester. While a fee, thought to be around £500,000 for the soon out of contract defender, didn’t seem to be an obstacle, it was thought that Simpson’s wages were the sticking point. A sum of £15,000 per week, rising to £20,000 per week if the club were promoted to the Premiership was rumoured to be the kind of figures under discussion with the player’s representatives. However, this problem seems to have been smoothed out now, as last ditch talks involving Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood were held yesterday. (more…)
