Newcastle United midfield maestro, Kevin Nolan, who has been instrumental in the club’s successful season, has been answering the critics who said that the club wouldn’t make it back to the Premier League at the first attempt. He also sounded very optimistic about Newcastle United’s future prospects, suggesting that promotion and the winning of the Championship could be just the “beginning of something which is going to be brilliant for Newcastle United”.

On the doom mongers he said:

“Everyone is now saying it is easy and we should have done it, but at the beginning of the season, we weren’t favourites to win this league, we weren’t favourites to even go up automatically, so it just shows what we have done.”

“There are a lot of ex-players who wrote us off, a lot of pundits who wrote us off, and we wanted to prove all that wrong, and a lot of papers who did hammer us when we went down, and rightly so.”

Moving on from what was said in the past, Nolan then switched his attention to the undoubtedly difficult task which lies ahead in the Premiership. Nolan mused: (more…)

The match against Cardiff on Friday evening, and the knocks to Alan Smith and Nicky Butt, gave Kevin Nolan a chance to wear the captain’s armband, and it’s becoming clear why, with the scouse lad becoming an integral part of Newcastle United and displaying leadership that we have been missing since a certain Alan Shearer hung up his boots.

Speaking to the The Mirror, Nolan has been lifting the lid on the team’s effort’s in gelling together, particularly important with 5 new faces through the door. Talking of our new signing’s, Nolan said:

“We had a meeting and told the new guys what we expected. We wanted them to buy into what we are about and from the display against Cardiff I think you can see they have.”

“The bowling session was to just get them involved and to get a bit of banter going and have a laugh. We wanted to get to know the new lads.” (more…)

Kevin Nolan has been chatting to the press and said that Newcastle United must win today against Doncaster Rovers or we could have another ‘crisis’ on our hands, then goes on to state that Mike Ashley isn’t so bad once you get to know him.

About today’s game, Nolan said:

I accept that if we don’t beat Doncaster at home then even some of our own fans might describe the situation as a crisis.

That is down to their expectation and there is nothing wrong with having expectations. The fans should have high expectations, especially in this league with the quality we have got in this squad.

We should not be losing three games on the run at Championship level anyway. It is an expectation that we put on ourselves.

If it does happen on Saturday then no one will be more disappointed than the 11 lads that leave the field in Newcastle shirts. We need a reaction.”

Which I suspect is exactly what there’ll be if we lose. I doubt our decent start has pleased the press much and they’ll be as eager as usual to carry reports of our demise (ooh, that’s bitter and cynical Hugh). (more…)
