Pardew unsure about Enrique but remaining hopeful

June 21st, 2011 | 11 Comments |

Jose Enrique's future at Newcastle still remains uncertain.
Big, big, big, big player
Jose Enrique’s future at Newcastle United still remains doubtful, although Alan Pardew says the club is trying its best to entice him to stay.

The Enrique situation still seems to be dragging on without solution and, in a recent interview, Alan Pardew used a quartet of successive ‘bigs’ to demonstrate what he thinks about Enrique but also says he remains unsure about the player’s future:

I’m still hopeful that Enrique – who was a big, big, big, big player for us last year – stays at the football club and we can entice him to stay, and obviously we are still working on that.

Jose’s holidaying and doesn’t have too much on at the moment, so we are not confident we can keep him, but we are not scared of losing him. It’s somewhere in between, really.

When you have only got a year left on a player of his ability, of course you are vulnerable, and I think it’s nervous times for us on him.(more…)

The Celtic raid: Scott Brown and Emilio Izaguirre

Scott Brown is alleged to have sparked the interest of Newcastle United scout Steve Stone.
Scott Brown: latest Toon Target
Newcastle United may be planning a raid on Celtic for both Emilio Izaguirre and Scott Brown. Izaguirre in particular looks necessary with Jose Enrique blanking Alan Pardew over his contract.

Allegedly, Newcastle are interested in Celtic captain Scott Brown. The 25 year-old midfielder started out at Hibernian and in 2007 he was transferred to Celtic for £4.4m where he’s been ever since.

Brown has scored 35 goals in 297 appearances and is now supposedly worth around about £6m, which Newcastle are said to be prepared to pay.

Quite where we’re going to put all these midfielders is another matter, unless we go for some sort of 0-10-0 formation.

Steve Stone has apparently been scouting the Scottish club for us and in particular left-back Emilio Izaguirre, which is a position that we may need to fill rather urgently given that Jose Enrique seems to be ignoring Alan Pardew’s attempts to get contract talks underway.

The Honduran left-back has apparently been on Pardew’s wish list for quite some time and it’s thought that Fraser Forster, who Celtic are very keen on taking permanently after his loan spell there last season, could be used as a deal clincher. (more…)

Newcastle bid for Swansea's Neil Taylor.
Bid made for Naylor
It appears that Newcastle United have submitted a formal bid for Swansea left-back Neil Taylor.

Newcastle submitted a £1m bid for Neil Taylor yesterday afternoon, following rumours over the weekend that we were closing in on the 22 year-old.

The Swansea City Chairman, Huw Jenkins, said:

We have received a proposal from Newcastle regarding Neil but the proposal has not been accepted or rejected at this stage.

We have received a number of enquiries from different clubs for Neil’s services and, like all bids we receive for any of our players, we will be talking it over with him when he returns from a break next week.

Neil is a player we brought to the club this season from the Conference with Wrexham with a view to him progressing and developing with us over a number of years.

The last thing on our mind was to sell anyone over the summer.(more…)

Newcastle United transfer targets.
Who are we after?
A summary of the current transfer targets at Newcastle United, not a single one of which has actually been confirmed by the club!

As another week gets underway, we can no doubt expect a load more transfer speculation relating to our club because it is after all silly season.

So I thought I’d kick off by doing a brief summary of where we supposedly stand with some of the transfer targets rumoured to date.

First of all, let’s be clear about one thing: the club have not confirmed a single transfer in and have only confirmed the exit of Sol Campbell and Shefki Kuqi, so that is our official transfer status at the moment.

Mehdi Abeid

By all accounts this is actually a done deal and the player himself has confirmed that he has agreed a deal with Newcastle after being welcomed and encouraged by Tiote and Ben Arfa. The 18 year old attacking midfielder has played most of his football for the Lens B team, so I’m guessing he’s down as one for the future. (more…)

Toon allegedly after left-back Neil Taylor

Newcastle will allegedly take advantage of a £1m buy-out clause in Neil Taylor's contract.
New left-back?
Newcastle United are allegedly set to take Swansea’s Neil Taylor via a £1m buy-out clause in his contract.

Allegedly (and don’t you just love it when I start an article with that) we have no less than ‘swooped’ over to Welsh Wales and are about to complete the signing of newly promoted Swansea’s Neil Taylor.

I can’t personally be having with this. Forget the speculative aspect of this for a moment, but we simply can’t employ any more Taylors. We already have Saylor and Raylor – do we really want a Naylor too?

Anyway, the 22 year-old is listed as a left-back or left-sided midfielder and has spent his senior career at Wrexham and Swansea after leaving the Manchester City youth programme at 15. Being a Taff, he has also figured in the Wales youth squad a few times and has now stepped up to senior level with 3 caps to his name. (more…)
