What a week for Newcastle fans!
The way the week started, with the loss of our centre forward at Newcastle United, it will probably go down as one of the worst Monday’s in the history of the club.

So it was always gonna be interesting, to say the least, to see how the team dealt with it psychologically as well as physically, on the pitch.

To be fair, it didn’t look good as our week got worse still with our away defeat to Fulham on Wednesday. Especially as we capitulated to a ‘punt’ up field to one Damian Duff. In the meantime we lost yet another striker early in that game, in the shape of Shola Ameobi, to what looked like a nasty cheekbone fracture.

Aye, the fun was never ending it seemed. So, as the lads prepared themselves for the visit of Arsenal to SJP you could be forgiven for fearing the worst. (more…)

This week is a massive week for Carroll and Newcastle.

Court case looms....
Court case looms....
This week signals one of the most important weeks so far for both Newcastle United and Andy Carroll.

Carroll’s court case starts today and although it is only scheduled for three days initially there is a possibility it could roll on for longer than that, with the worst case scenario being that the Geordie hitman will have to spend some time at her majesty’s pleasure.

If that happened it would be disastrous for Newcastle, who are back in action against Arsenal on Wednesday night before hosting the first Tyne/Wear derby of the season next Sunday.

Now obviously I’m not going to make wild assupmtions of what went on and what is going to happen, as quite frankly I wasn’t there and I’m not a lawyer so wouldn’t be qualified to make an assumption, but if he is found guilty I would hope he is subjected to the extent of the law, much like you or I would be. On the flipside, if he is found not-guilty then I would hope that people will stop using it as a stick to beat the lad with.

I am sure that the details will be revealed soon enough, but assault occasioning actual bodily harm can be a very serious offence. Carroll will plead not-guilty to the charges that are laid out in front of him. (more…)

Newcastle handed tough Carling Cup draw.

Home comforts in the fourth round.
Home comforts in the fourth round.
After the highs of beating Chelsea away in the last round of the Carling Cup I think it’s fair to say that the fourth-round draw has brought most of us back down to earth with a bump.

The win against Chelsea was a fantastic result and well deserved given the effort that our lads put in on the night. A nice reward would have been a home tie against one of the so called weaker teams still left in the competition. Northampton at home would have done nicely.

What did we end up with? Bloody Arsenal. At least the game is at home though and will have to be sorted on the night in front of our own fans.

Deflated is the word I would have used after watching us get pulled out of the hat, but after pondering it I guess that we would have to play one of the big boys again at some point in the competition if we actually want to win it.

As ever, Newcastle will have to do things the hard way and will have to beat those famous Arsenal youngsters that play in the Carling Cup games if they want to progress in the competition. (more…)
