Newcastle United – News Roundup – 09 July 2009 [updated]

I suppose we ought to be glad the press are keeping quiet for once but it shows a huge lack of consideration for people trying to do news roundups like this.
We get a brief mention in The Times’ transfer roundup regarding our interest in Fraizer Campbell. Apparently Hull are also interested in him but the report claims that their interest could be scuppered by the Mackems.
The Mail claims that Arsenal have already approached Bassong about signing him.
Seb says:
“Premier League clubs are interested in me, but nothing is simple because Newcastle are in the middle of a takeover and nobody knows who will be the manager.”
Well, quite.
The Chronicle ran a survey about season tickets with the results being roughly as follows:
- 52.1% have not renewed their season tickets.
- 48% are considering not going to matches next season.
- 51% are considering only attending on a game-by-game basis.
- 95% want Ashley to leave before they return.
- 73% want to see the back of ‘mercenary’ players.
I find the results of this survey strangely uninspiring but The Express follows it up with a brief article, although they still report that Krishnan is favourite to take over the club, which is hardly finger-on-the-pulse stuff.
That really is about it, sorry. If the press give me the material I’ll try to do a better job tomorrow.
Update – 09:00
The Mirror is now claiming that Gianluca Vialli is coming to Newcastle as Director of Football, which just goes to show the sort of nonsense the papers will print. No such report would be complete without a quote from ‘insiders’ of course:
Insiders claim the new owners would make £25million available straight away for signings.
Complete and utter invention if you ask me (and I know you want to). Even my dog laughed when I told him.
Dont worry about it. Most of the stuff you read is BS anyway. I reckon in the next week are club will be sold, to who? I have know idea. At least they’re doing something right with the confidentality agreements. Time will tell. Off to work now, see ya later.;-)
