Tottenham v Newcastle – Match banter!

Tottenham take on The Toon.
Tottenham take on The Toon.
Welcome one and all to our magical, magnificent, marvellous match banter article that will cover the Tottenham vs Newcastle fixture this afternoon.

There is some bad news for us all to digest regarding the fitness of Jose Enrique I’m afraid.

It would appear, according to Jose’s Twitter account, that our left-back will miss the game this afternoon as he is suffering from a tight hamstring. We will, of course, await official confirmation, but if it is coming from Jose then you would have to assume that it is true.

This news will give Alan Pardew a bit of a defensive headache as he looks to try and negate the loss of our star defender, but one way around it would be to play Danny Simpson at left-back, Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini at centre-back, and fit Steven Taylor in at right-back. It isn’t ideal, but it’s probably the best we can do in the circumstances.

Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from a spirited defeat against Manchester City, but it won’t be an easy game. You can read my match preview if you haven’t already done so and take in some more injury news, news of suspensions for both sides as well as some facts and stats regarding the match.

I’ve had a quick look for streaming links for the match today, and on first galnce it looks as though we could be in luck as there appears to be an awful lot of streams of the game available. Of course, there is no guarantee that they will work, but you can check here to see if there is a link to suit your particular needs.

So here we go. I’m not expecting a lot from the game today, but a point would be nice. The minimum I expect is a committed and disciplined performance, without any schoolboy errors!

Howay the lads!

Tottenham: Huerelho Gomes, Alan Hutton, Younes Kaboul, Michael Dawson, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Aaaron Lennon, Luka Modric, Wilson Palacios, Gareth Bale, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Roman Pavlyuchenko.

  1. shlt hot predictions es ever toonsy, gone for Perch :D

Krul; Perch, S Taylor, Coloccini, Simpson; Routledge, Barton, Smith, Tiote, Gutierrez; Carroll.

  2. @budda – imagine if I won the lottery, think theres more chance of that than xisco / best being match winners to be honest

  3. I had a reet weird dream where we lost 13-3 to QPR, Hope i wasnt just getting them mixed up with another cockernee club…

  4. It will be interesting to see who he puts up against Bale. Will it be Simpson on him and Perch on Lennon? What do you reckon, i know that Jose would certainly keep him quiet! Smith will sit n Van Der Vart in between the lines and get into him vry ime he gets the ball and i can’t see Van Der Vaart doing much when he gets snapped a couple of times.

  5. Expecting nowt today, dont think we’ll get thrashed but a defeat is on the cards

then again…. this is the toon so we may thump them :)

  6. Perch for JOSE!!! I thought it was for Simpson. Where the fook is Kadar! He’s played as a LB for Hungary. OMG whats he doin.

  7. James Perch – free to a good home.

This has got to be his last chance, I would play Kadar over him any day. I’m still amazed that we can let a decent LB like David Edgar leave on a free and sign pure trash in the form of Perch.

  8. We might aswell right this one off and rest for Wigan and West Ham, important games. I think we get murdered here like Im gonna watch with one eye. Alan Smith aswell AARRGGHH!

  9. I’m more interested about how we are going to line up in attack.

I think Smith and Tiote will be holding. Then Routledge, Barton and Jonas will be more attacking with Carroll up top on his own being supported by them.

  10. ‘Danny Simpson at left-back, Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini at centre-back, and fit Steven Taylor in at right-back. It isn’t ideal, but it’s probably the best we can do in the circumstances.’

Toonsy I think you’ve got it spot on there mate. I think Pardew is still learning but he will learn a lot about his squad players today. When you look at what spurs have these days I think our starters would struggle as it is, now we gonna be murdered for sure.

  11. if anything today will be interesting to see what Pardew has up his sleeve tactically. Obviously curbing Bale’s attacking skills will be crucial, but I would pit Routledge against any left back if he is up for it…it’s just a question of if he’s up for it !!…

  12. Its a better counter attacking team with two wingers and Barton further forward.

Still think well get a tonking but if wigan can beat these at shite fart so can we, Just like we emulated WBA at Arsandhole earlier this season…

  13. Seriously lads don’t get any hopes up this could be a hammering this like 5-1 or 6-1 or something.

  14. does nobody believe we can get something out of this.
these are the games we surpass ourselves.

  15. What is the point of changing managers??? Fricking useless donkey, 3 strikers on the bench and not one of them a better bet than Smith? Pardew out :)

  16. Don’t agree with shifting Taylor and Simpson to accomodate big Mike. Why not just bring in Ferguson.

  17. If I’m being honest I don’t think we’ll get nything today apart from a good hiding, but we have had a couple of good away wins so you never know.

Just that Spurs are due to give someone a right battering, hope it’s not today!

  18. Stuart79 says:

“Why cannot we play like that? Pass and move – It’s not hard!”

Stop it Stuart its only 15 minutes into the game at least wait until halftime :)

  19. thats a new one, hand on Carolls heed ! Why do refs always favour the defenders, Carolls getting beaten up ?

  20. I see Tootenham are doing the most boring chant in football….

    Ohhh wheen the spuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrsssssssssssss zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  21. “Why? I’m only asking the question?”

Keep away from negative thoughts for as long as you possibly can. I know its not easy but give it a go ?

  22. Do you think we’d ever score another goal if Carroll got injured? Absolutely everything goes through him.

    It’s quite worrying I think.

  23. Johno Toon says:

“Cant watch the stream as in work , how we playing?”

Commentator’s just said the game hasnt really come to life yet. Crowd is quiet and VdV is a cheating whingeing twat falling down at the slightest hint of contact. AC has Dawson in his pocket at the moment.

  24. Rob @ 85

I personally think Spider is a waste of a shirt. He brings nothing to the team except a bit of headless chicken style running around. On his day he can be class, but as that day happens only about once a season we’d be better off without him in the team.

Thats just my opinion of course, but I hope he proves me wrong.

  25. Barton’s deliveries have been sup par in the 1st 45, Hopefully he’ll change his boots or something for the 2nd

  26. Rubbish. Dunno how he’s found the net from there like, Perch is standing off him but what else can you do.

  27. Spurs are a set of cheating cnts! Thought Arry was better than that.

Could be anything now, Spurs go for the jugular!

  28. Tiote needs to be careful like. Ranger on for him? Wasted FK from Barton there, overhit it by a mile.

  29. excellent, are they playing without a striker now?

we should still take tiote off, he does anything and he’s off.
Get Ranger on instead, go for the jugular

  30. Stuart-not when we’re struggling to even put the ball onto Carrolls head from set pieces like. And at the moment that’s the only way a goal is coming

  31. Got to take Tiote off and get Xisco on
Full backs have to more in attack we need to score

  32. We need another striker imo. We are very predictable at the minute.

Still didn’t really expect anything from the last two ames but it is only 1 win in 8 for us now and Fulham, Blackpool and Blackburn all winning we need reinforcments in Jan.

Oh and will someone sort this fckin site out!!!!!

  33. Not that it matters given the fact out delivery was again appalling today but just before Spurs broke for their second goal there was a quite standard foul on Carroll from Modric. Carroll did well to keep the ball and win in on the edge of their box, Modric stuck out a leg and brought him down, 10 seconds later they’re 2-0 up.

  34. Its not the result that annoys me but the complete lack of creating anything from other then looking for Carroll with high balls in terms of creating opportunities.

We cannot expect to do much this season if our plan a,b and c is chip it up for Carroll.

We need a winger and a top flight striker in january…

  35. Think Barton is already employed by Spurs today!! Passing fine until he go near their box!!

Ref decided at the start to give everything against Carroll and everytime Spurs player went down the whistle went.

  36. And that makes absoultly no sense.

Its not the result that annoys me but the complete lack of creativity in the side and an over relience in hitting Carroll with high balls.

We cannot expect to do much this season if our plan a,b and c is chip it up for Carroll.

We need a winger and a top flight striker in january…

  37. Barton’s set pieces were poor today which shows just how important he is. Pretty poor from Ranger, and lovenkrands was rubbish. A fit Shola would still be my favourite over either of them, but we do need another one, especially if we can’t use Nolan. Thought smith did well today-Perch’s mistake vs lennon arguably costed us the match but compared to his other matches i couldn’t slate him that much. Does make you wonder..if we’d only had enrique..Ah well, doubted we were gonna get anything anyway so now onto the next two matches which are crucial.

  38. Well good first half. I think if we’d had Enrique it may have ultimately made the difference because Spurs were poor but eventually and inevitably Lennon scored after skinning Perch down the right. (Where is Kadar?)

Dissapointed we couldn’t make more of a challenge when they went down to 10. Lovenkrands and Best out in Jan please and a prem stiker in.

If we’re gonna start getting beaten by the better sides now we need to get a win in at least one of the next two games against Wigan and West Ham, and if we play like we have been I don’t see why we can’t.

Could be worse could be beaten at home 2-0 in donkey derby, haha sunderland.

Barton was awful today put too much on everything.

  39. We’re only 4 points off the relegation zone and Birmingham who are 3rd bottom have two games in hand on us, and most teams below us have one game in hand.

  40. Is this the good attacking brand of football pardew says he plays, sky sport kept using terms like, “devoid of ideas” “one dimensional” “boring and predictable” “long ball bullshit”

  41. Just kept quiet for a while now see how we do, I hope Pardew has the balls to get rid and buy in Jan!! Jonas, Smith, Xisco(just cos he will not get a chance), Best, Perch, Lovenkrands all need to go. They just do not a
2 good midfielders and a striker desperately needed along with full time signing of Ben Arfa! Id even try a cheeky bid/swap deal for Taraabt – looks fantastic from what Ive seen. Also would like a bit more use from our young ens – cant do much worse than when a few of our players go missing in a game!!
Our bench has been absolutely shocking the past few games which just shows our lack of quality. I wasnt expecting anything from City/Spuds games anyway as they are the next step up but we dont even have the quality to get at them and make them think. No pace, no killer passing and we rely on a young striker far too much. Too many of our players panic on the ball and whack a pass out which does nothing but put pressure on us. Spurs never looked worried and it was probably a case of “just another routine game” for them.
We work our socks off, we just need a bit more quality to go with that and were sorted.

  42. jay jay

Its hardly Pardews fault, he’s only been here 3 weeks ffs. I thought we played well first half and was looking like one of last seasons battling away games. But we got beat in the end fair and square by a team thats in the champs league and has spent money whilst we last season were in the chumpionship. What do people expect. We have just played two teams ‘challenging for the title’ but at least top 4 imo. Not all the games will be like this, the next 2 are against bottom sides..

  43. If Barton plays well, we play well, and today, Barton was dump!

So we half way through the season yet?

  44. Routledge was also poor today alongside jonas which contributed to the lack of idea thing really. Think we’re going to have to stick with 442, Barton on the right. What was that statistic used on the commentary, almost 100pl games for routledge and not one goal? Smith did his job well, but we seriously need Nolan back..and a fit Gosling would be nice some we’ve actually got someone good we can bring on if we need to sub tiote or a CM off.

  45. 19 games, 22 points. I will take that for the second half as well, please. 44 points will see us safe. We aren’t as bad as Wolves, Wigan or West Ham imo

  46. You can’t blame pardew, he threw on loven and ranger tho that just made us look worse – players looked tired and off the boil and we’re just lumping it up to Carroll
Nolan was badly missed which goes to show how thin our squad is
Perch did okay tho think Bull would have had Lennon in his pocket – once Tiote went off they just walked through our midfield, we def need some creativity and are to reliant on Barton and Carroll for anything decent happening in the last third

Expected defeat but after first half thought we could get something – oh well 6 pointers now against Wigan and West Ham we must win those, put the kids out against Stevenage and play to win against SMBs – Blackpool managed it today by playing attacking football

“Could be worse could be beaten at home 2-0 in donkey derby, haha sunderland.”

Mate, that’s the very same team that beat us, at home, 2-0 lol

  48. i love mike

I know mate but micky horswill. Called it the donkey derby and laughed at us about it for weeks and weeks. And it’s just happened to them, thats what I was refering to. ;)

  49. And the very same team that’s just overtaken us in the league and looking god for survival. :/

  50. Blackpool are a good side and a credit to the Premiership. They will deservedly survive.

Need Everton to burst West Ham’s bubble now…No pun intended ;)

  51. too many of our players are not mentally quick enough for this league. What a disappointment. Most of the teams below us are putting runs together, we’ll all see how bad Wigan, West Ham and Wolves are in the next games ! Dream on if we think these teams are gonna roll over !
Sorry to be a doom monger, but I get irritated when I see some of our players taking the piss out of the black and white stripes. Men against boys today…

  52. Yeah, honestly, anybody who expected a good result for us today might be a *bit* deluded. I HOPED for a result, but tbh expected a loss. Spurs, however much I hate them, are in form and playing well right now. We are still getting used to a new manager and were missing two of our best players. Arguably, Pardew could have played Kadar instead of Perch, but I can’t truly fault him for this. We’ve known from the start of the season that a fixture like this is probably not one to count on for points. The games against Wigan and West Ham are important now, but then again, we’ve known that since the season commenced. Hopefully we’ll have Jose and wor Tugboat back and I think that’ll make the difference. just NO Perch. I’d rather see Kadar make 50 errors and LEARN from them and get better than watch Perch look like a monkey out there. And FFS PLEASE sign a proper right winger.

  53. Routledge heedless chicken comes to mind…no delivery..100 prem games without a goal, probably 100 PL games without a decent cross ball either.

  54. I wish we had someone like Solano or Robert in their prime and in form right now. We are missing someone like that till Benny is back.

  55. Munich – It’s not resally their fault that their not good enough. The squad has been poor and lop sided since KK was there. We’ve had one left back for 3 yrs! We desperately need another striker as Carroll will get injured or have a bad run of form.

We know we’re not going to go through the season beating the likes of Arsenal, that was a fluke result. The only problem is that we’ve not beaten the crappy teams either.

We stil have to go to Stoke, Blacburn, Blackpool, Sunderland, Fulham ect…

  56. I enjoy watching Blackpool and think Holloway is an absolute legend, I hope they survive like. Our next two games are huge now though. Six points would be wonderful.

  57. Stu-

You’re right mate. Let’s just hope for a couple cheeky signings in Jan. NEED a #10 striker, a right winger who can fookin’ cross the ball, and cover for left back. Still think we should sign Juan Vargas from Fiorentina. LoL would cost a pretty penny, but he’s one of the best fullbacks around. Not that it will ever happen, mind, but would be cool lol

  58. Lovenkrands or Ranger needs to start. When he came on Barton started trying to thread balls through the channels. It made us a little bit more diverse and less predictable.

  59. Stuart I agree mate, some of our players should be nowhere near the PL, they are just not good enough.

Ominously Tiote seems to be going off a bit, and now has a reputation of being dirty, he picks up bookings every week, and will become a liability.

Agreed that the Arsenal result was a fluke, but it only goes to show what can be achieved with the right fighting spirit and application. Both of these characteristics were missing today, we need to get back firing on all cylinders pdq.

  60. Don’t panic! don’t panic!

Im encouraged by these two performances and I think we’ll get something from the next two games. West Ham won’t catch us man they win one game and then lose the next 4 they have all season.

  61. we set out our stall not to lose today, and to be honest at hal time a draw looked a distinct possibility. Bale and Mondric two players who can win games out of nothing, and thats what happened at the end of the day…

By the way, not too impressed with this diving lark from the spurs players, Palios and Van De Vaart should be ashamed of themselves.

We also need to start getting refs on our side regarding Andy Carroll, kin ‘el it’s hard enough anyway with 90Kg of centre half on your back, but he got nowt today. Sky Sports are starting a hatchet job on him too now…”robust challenges” etc etc… robust aye, but not dirty..

  62. Relegation fodder just glad we have the likes of Leon Best in the ranks to sweep up the mess.

  63. think pardew will bring in two wingers in jan coz jonas n routledge giv u no end product at all, half the season gone n am fairly happy a lot we can improve on but hav seen enough to think we will stay up

  64. Now I think our team is shyt and I’m not a usual miserable person or anything to come here and post negative comment.

So I fcking hope our team will turn it around and play fcking football.

our snidey looking bastard of a manager will have us winning whilst playing like spurs – just like he said he would.

i’ll prob’s have the lotto up before that happens like.

  66. been a while.watched the match and i can finally declare that james perch is a hapless hobo.he has no understanding of the game the stupid time when spurs were pushing forward colo and taylor were tracking back following jenas, but perch stuck to our centre backs leaving lennon in free space to take a shot.he missed narrowly.we wouldn’t be so lucky another time.get rid of perch and routledge.they are championship material nothing more.they’d be lucky to make it in a blackpool squad.
pardew is not who we need, why can’t we get someone like ray wilkins?he’s an absolutely terrific coach who’s totally underrated and without work at the moment..sigh..

  67. richietoon I just seem to recall West Ham coming to the toon and turning us over quite often.

  68. if we can’t beat west ham we are gonna be in deep shit.
why is pardew playing smiffy anymore?or lovenkrands?we need fresh legs, decent players, investment,a proper manager, and proper management..but then again when hasn’t that been said already..

  69. you showed me up again RT…part time supporter !

I’m just on miserable git mode at the moment

  70. alsong as we get 4 points in next two we’ll be fine, 6 points and we’ll be safe as houses for now.

People are forgetting Spurs and City are like the ‘top 4’ sides these days, we aint gonna get anything from them and arsenal was a fluke. I thought we started well today considering we didn’t have the bull.

  71. didn;t think it was all bad today. two big disappointments was our final ball. we have to have more than a cross or chip for andy carroll. the two full backs also have to do more
this is nothing new and we all know we lack quality in this area. how many more chances spidey and routledge get i do not know.
wright phillips or adam johnson on loan would be welcome

  72. Cropper, Kevins had a go, a big go, might be out on his ear.

They are saying there is a breakdown of trust, that was there before and gone now

  73. LONDON (AP) — Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has criticized defender Jose Enrique for revealing on Twitter that he would miss Tuesday’s Premier League match at Tottenham.

The Spaniard wrote in broken English four hours before the match, “we decide is better dont play.”

Pardew was annoyed that key team news had been leaked.

“Did he tweet it, did he?” Pardew asked reporters after a 2-0 loss at White Hart Lane. “Players can’t be giving that sort of information out.”

Pardew says “it’s difficult to police … we need to make it as a club policy that it has to stop.”

Asked if Enrique would be fit for Sunday’s match against West Ham, Pardew replied: “I’ll check his tweet.”

The tweets were subsequently removed from Enrique’s Twitter feed.

  74. Lads in all honesty did anyone expect a result today.
Worky I was surprised at some of the stuff on his twitter, but I think he was just answering questions without thinking it through

  75. Big Dave says:

“Lads in all honesty did anyone expect a result today.
Worky I was surprised at some of the stuff on his twitter”

Is it definitely his twitter, Dave? I’m surprised that Partridge would come out and openly criticise a player to reporrters just because the same reporters said something which hadn’t been confirmed. Then again, I’m not surprised at all really!

  76. Worky there is pics and stuff on it that could only come from him. I just think Jose hasn’t really thought it through, though his girl is real sweet

  77. Its definately Jose’s Twitter page and Pardew is bang on to criticise him. There needs to be discipline in the club and Pardew cannot walk on egg shells for fear of upsetting them.

  78. Three things:

Pardwho is no tactical genius nor Mourinho mark 2, in fact he’s just about the same as what we had :(

    “Stuart79 says:
We’ll have to play two upfront if we’re going to win”.
This is actually Stu taking onboard the “dont do negative comments” advice and he’s right. When we play 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 its because we want to pack more players into midfield and deny space to our opponents. However the problem with those formations lies in the 1-1 link. Yes AC is the final 1 but the linking one is invariably Nolan or Barton today. Neither of whom possess

    Startling pace
Killer ball passing technique (although JB does have a wicked cross on him sometimes)

The type of player you play in the hole and thus link midfield more easily to attack is a Messi, a Van der Vaart or even HBA. The player that does the linking has to be a quailty player.

If we dont have that calibre of player available to us then 4-4-2 at least allows us to put more pressure on the opponents, gives us 50% more outlets and allows us (possibly) to keep hold of the ball for longer periods.

The other problem with 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 is the midfield four have to be capable of delivering. For so long now we have had passengers in those positions who fail to deliver 9 times out of 10 which then heaps pressure on the rest of the team to help ot. Today if Routledge and Jonas had tracked back and helped out their beleagured flanks then at least it could have been said that they put in a shift.

Its time to look at the players we have in this squad and realise, as I said before, that symmettry doesnt equate to balance.

Third point – At least we’ll win the Ashes tonight/tomorrow morning :)
