How many more players will Newcastle United recruit?
Still an option?
How many players do you think Newcastle United will recruit before the transfer window closes?

There seems to be a fair bit of ‘NUFC depression’ around this week, mainly due to the lack of transfer activity I suppose.

Having said that, it seems that we’re still pursuing Modibo Maiga despite Sochaux’s Chairman apparently rejecting out of hand any transfer for the player. Some reports are suggesting that we will submit a new £9.5m bid in order to try and find some cracks in Sochaux’s stance.

Furthermore, according to Alan Pardew, the ‘plan’ triggered by Enrique’s departure has sprung into action and a new left-back is being pursued with vigour. I’m not sure whether that’s Pieters or Cissokho but we have been told to expect that it will be a tough task to recruit a left-back due to other clubs “knowing we need one”.

So far during this transfer window we’ve brought in Cabaye, Marveaux, Obertan and Ba into the senior squad. And possibly Abeid, although I’m not sure whether he classes as a full first-team player yet.

There are now 12 days left in the transfer window and I wanted to gauge the optimism of Toon fans about those remaining 12 days with a poll.

So, simply put: how many more senior, first-team players do you think we’ll recruit before the transfer window closes?

Just before we go to the vote though, I’d like to remind you that our Prediction Competition got underway last weekend and sveinstrand tops the Current Table with a creditable 10 points.

You can make your predictions for next week now.

Now, back to the vote:

  1. Might get a loan in possibly but that depends if we can negotiate on the agent fee as loans and free tranfers will probably bankrupt us.

We need to be on a sound financial footing these days so the days of splashing out on proven premiership quality players is still a long way off….think light years.

We have to consider all the dept, the figures, spreadsheets, lack of due dilligence, the owner is hard up,undesoil heating (top of range),the cost of banners for the stadium,Pardew’s wages etc etc

  2. Simmo was offered a supposed “new contract” last month so if he hasn’t signed we’ll sell him as well and replace him with Ryan Taylor, oh wait he’s our new left back….

  3. Mick… Don’t worry all tranfers will be done in January it will take Llambias until then to tot up all the millions we will be spending

  4. I very much doubt we will “buy” anyone, maybe a pointless loan but nothing to build a future around…

  5. Hopefully all the new freebies we got will be decent and we can flog them in January….we must clear the debt and it will take another 5 years minimum at the present rate of inflation and current interest rates and financial downturns and double dip recessions and euro implosion so we got to cut our cloth accordingly just like Mike does in his little indonesian sweat shops…..damn my spreadsheet just crashed pfft

  6. Mr Pardew has just said the”bench looks stonger” sorted play the bench at left back it’s probably better than Perch.

  7. On a slightly less whimsical note, doesnt this whole transfer fiasco point to the fact that Fatman just doesnt give a feck about where we finish ?

All the experts tell us that it’s not the games against the top four/five/six that you need to try and win but the ones against teams in your part of the table !

OK Arsenal (with a proper team) may not have been a winnable game but the Makems (away) most definitely is – if we had a decent LB and striker without having to rely on Raylor and Ba/Shirley.

As long as we’re above the bottom three eh Fatso?

  8. Charlton Athletic’s official website say the club have rejected a £100k bid from #nufc for goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

For Fooks sake this club is a Joke.

  9. “Charlton have rejected an offer from Newcastle United for goalkeeper Rob Elliot, and have protested to the Premier League about the Magpies’ conduct.

Newcastle made a formal written bid of £100,000 for the 25-year-old custodian on Wednesday, which was immediately rejected by Charlton.

But despite promises from United officials that no details of the offer would be made public, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew subsequently spoke about the bid.

“We have enquired about Rob Elliot, and we’ve put a bid in there.”

The comments have angered officials at The Valley ahead of Charlton’s home match against Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

“In advance of our match against Scunthorpe, it is very disappointing that Alan Pardew has decided to make public an offer for Robbie Elliot despite assurances to the contrary that wouldn’t happen from his club officials,” said Charlton chief executive Stephen Kavanagh on Friday.

“Assurances from his club officials” seems to be the key phrase here ! Yeah right any NUFC club official who can be trusted to say anything, without lying, isnt doing their job properly. Wouldnt be surprised to find the Charlton keeper going AWOL in the next couple of days :)

  10. Ah the curse of the dreaded moderator what did I say ?

    Fatman is a lying bastad ? Pardwho has boiled rice between his ears ? Ah ha its S C U N T H O R P E isnt it

  12. Guess who couldn’t keep his mouth shut about the deal?

    Pardew is a bloody liability.

  13. Forget the other posts with the dreaded word in them Mods :)

My response to SJT’s comment about the Charlton bid can be summarised.

  14. i can see what pardew means now about other clubs making it difficult for them.

    shame on you charlton.

  15. seeing QPR being taken over just breaks your heart that no one would want to buy our club!

  16. I think people do want to buy the club nufc but not at Fatmans price including his debt/loan of £100m+. As I’ve said before if he asked for £150m he’d find buyers but not at £250m !

It staggers me to think he’s so fired up about recouping his loans to the club (most of which were as a result of his own stupidity) yet he happily blew £120m on the Hbos shares gamble and loses £1m at the tables with ease.

  17. Guess it depends on MA’s fears of relegation, obviously has sussed the fact the fans will show up regardless of who we have on the pitch or in the management role.
If it’s mid league mediocrity for the next few years, that enables him to recoup his investment, which i’m sure is his main priority..
Unfortunately, any run to-wards a european spot takes a lotta dosh, look at Liverpools £100m. plus spending, plus the £70m.or so spent by our neighbors, who have little chance of any top six spot IMO.
On watching the Arsenal game, have to say we are not that bad a side and a few choice reinforcements could make us into a fairly decent side.
But we still need both a left back and backup across the back four, I was wondering how Tiote would do in the LB role, as we have both Joey and Cabaye in front of the defense.
Would also like to see Jonas on the right (now that Enrique is gone)with Marvoue on the left, could see a bit of speed, spread the defenders a bit and hopefully supply our big men in the middle.
There appears to be the beginning of a team being built, with a solid pair of CD’s and some decent midfielders, Krul is improving by the game, as is Simpson.
Not convinced we have the forwards needed, and a bit of competition in the back four would be nice.
But hey, what do i know ?

“On watching the Arsenal game, have to say we are not that bad a side and a few choice reinforcements could make us into a fairly decent side”

I agree Chuck. If you played devils advocate on behalf of the Fatman you could point to a team that includes

    Krul
    Simpson, Saylor, Colo, LB
    Cabaye, Tiote
    Jonas, Barton/Gosling/Vukcic, HBA/Marveaux
    Striker

and which could do pretty well this season.

However those two are key positions and making do with Raylor or Fergie dropping back and Ba or Shirley up front suddenly devalues the potential of the team IMO.

  19. Workey
    Thanks !
Been doing a bit of travelling!
Have’nt seen this guy Miaga, so can’t comment on him, but watched young Long play against Man. U. the other day and have to say i was highly impressed.
What a work rate and he takes his chances, guess Carr should check out some of the youngsters closer to home.
To think we couldda got this 24 yr. old for £7m. who will only improve, ticks all the boxes, except perhaps the price box.
Couldda had the starting set of ROI strikers, combinining him with Best.
Ah well ! again whadda i know ?

  20. According to Partridge the bench is strong so we are laughing this season…latest waffle off official site:

“The Development Squad group have really stepped up a mark and even my bench on Saturday looks a lot stronger than last year,” he said.
“We know there are two positions we need to strengthen, but the group below is really pushing.
“You’ve got Haris, Mehdi, Sammy Ameobi, and Marveaux is also getting up to speed now. There is real competition in a lot of areas and that is much better and exactly how it should be at a club like this.

In other words due to excellent work recently all the youngsters are ready to step up so I don’t have to nudge Mick anymore…zzzzzzzzzzzz

  21. pardew is full of it,the bench on saturday against arsenal was no great shakes ffs.we had very little to change the game,he’s living in la-la land.
alan, one question,if your squad is so strong, then why is a young so called development player like medhi abeid, anywhere near the first team?.
surely if our squad is as strong as you say, then why would we be hurrying this kid to first team action?.
    because we haven’t got a strong squad,you f**kin’ lying c**t!!!.

  22. Shud play the new guy jj hooper he scored a hatrick with in hours of signing against Chelsea under 18s he has a build like les Ferdinand werth a chance like
