Who is the best Newcastle United striker? The answer may surprise you.

Dwight Gayle
Dwight Gayle – Easily Toon’s most efficient goalscorer.
It is no secret, Newcastle United’s strikers couldn’t hit a cow’s backside with a banjo at the moment. Collectively, our four strikers have scored only one goal in the Premier League in 26 games, with almost all of the goals scored by the club so far this season coming from defenders and midfielders. One in particular has been given more than enough time to prove himself and has shown woeful judgment in front of goal whilst others have only had the odd substitute appearence to prove themselves. In this piece I intend to sort the wheat from the chaff and go through their performances at the top level over their careers. (more…)

Miguel Almiron
Almiron – Still has a lot to do to prove himself.
Miguel Almiron’s signing with Newcastle United just over a year ago was textbook Rafael Benitez, the Paraguayan’s transfer wasn’t too dissimilar to the many players Benitez signed at Liverpool, seeking to find a hidden gem while still paying a decent amount for their services. Steve Bruce
Bruce: Keeping his distance from contract negotiations
In his press conference before the Arsenal game on Sunday, Steve Bruce once again faced inevitable questions on whether the Longstaff brothers will stay at Newcastle United under Mike Ashley’s notoriously parsimonious regime.

Speaking on the contract negotiations before the Arsenal game, Bruce said: (more…)

Miguel Almiron
A familiar pose for Almiron since he came to Tyneside.
When Newcastle United signed Miguel Almiron from MLS side, Atlanta United on January 31st for a potential fee of up to £21 million, the signing was met with great excitement from the Newcastle fanbase, which was partly due to Almiron’s impressive 2018 record of 12 goals and 14 assists for Atlanta in US Major League Soccer, and partly down to the fact Mike Ashley had finally surpassed the previous club record signing of £16 Million, set back in 2005. However, since a seemingly promising start to life as a Newcastle player, Almiron has now made 20 appearances in the Premier League, with no goals or assists to show. So, what’s going wrong for Almiron? (more…)

Will Perez’s departure cause a mass exit?

Ayoze Perez
Ayoze Perez in his new Leicester colours.
It’s worrying times if you are a Newcastle United fan. Not only has Mike Ashley been unable to keep Rafa Benitez at the club, with the Spaniard agreeing to become Dalian Yifang’s new manager, but Ayoze Perez has left, signing for Leicester City for no less than £30 million.

But will the second big departure of the summer result in several other key players vacating St James Park? Sean Longstaff has been linked continuously with Manchester United. It has been widely reported that Longstaff’s representatives have met with Manchester United to discuss a possible move this summer. (more…)
