Michael Owen arriving for training last year.
Settle down, settle down, I’m talking about the injury league table!

Funny old world isn’t it? Last season we pretty much breezed through the season picking up relatively few injuires along the way. Strange considering we were used to having a pretty full treatment room in the Premier League.

But our return to Premier League action has signalled more than just the return of trips to Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, it has brought with it a return to our usual spot at the top of the injury league table.

For a good few years now, Newcastle fans have had to bemoan the fact that injuries seemed to strike us more than other teams. Time and time again, the same offenders were repeatedly ruled out. Michael Owen and Marcelino spring to mind as probably two of our worst culprits for missing games, although there have been more than just those two in fairness. (more…)

Injury problems for Carroll?
Injury problems for Carroll?
Andy Carroll has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad for tomorrow nights match against Uzbekistan at Ashton Gate.

Carroll came off at half-time with a back injury in the match against Rangers at the weekend, and was closely followed by Jose Enrique who also suffered a some form of knock.

There is still a week to go until our opening game of the season, so a lot will depend on the seriousness of any injuries sustained before any panic buttons can start being pressed. They certainly didn’t look like major injuries to me though, but slight niggles can be deceptive, and we already know that Chris Hughton tends not to risk players who are carrying little niggles, unless it is absolutely necessary of course. Taylor - Out for 3 months.
Taylor - Out for 3 months.
It has been confoirmed today that Newcastle defender Steven Taylor will be sidelined for three months with the shoulder injury sustained at Carlisle nearly two weeks back.

It’s a huge blow for both the player and the team as Newcastle look to use this season to consolidate their place in the Premier League, although the signing of Sol Campbell has cushioned the blow a bit, for me anyway.

This is the latest setback for Taylor in what is turning out to be his ‘annus horribilis’. It all started back in January when he injured his knee against West Brom which forced him to miss most the remainer of the season. Then there was the infamous ‘Glassjawgate’ affair in which Taylor allegedly recieved a broken jaw in a training ground dust-up, now add this latest injury to the list and we have a central defender that has only made two appearances this year due to this horrendously bad luck with injuries.
