It was cold, bitterly cold, made even worse by being practically forced from the concourse into the stands at a very early juncture, with lack of alcohol being served contributing heavily to my early journey to my seat.

Upon finding my seat, I looked around the Walkers Stadium and thought it was ‘nice’, nothing else, just ‘nice’. Perhaps it suffers from ‘new stadium’ syndrome – the syndrome where it seems grounds built in the last 20 years lose the atmosphere that the previous grounds had. I was sitting towards the rear of the stand anyway so I held out some hope of a good craic.

After hearing the team news, my fear that Nicky Butt would be playing was confirmed. Again, another away day, another game with just 1 striker and a less than mobile Kevin Nolan in support. I was buoyed however, by the fact this was my first chance to see recent signings Routledge, Williamson and Patrick Van Aanholt, making his debut. The team looking like; (more…)

Walker’s Stadium, Leicester. Kick Off: Saturday 30th Jan, 5:20PM. TV: Sky Sports 1.

With this weeks new signings Mike Williamson and Wayne Routledge being joined by on loan defenders Fitz Hall and Patrick Van Aanolt today, the face of the Toon squad is literally changing day by day, and at times even hour by hour. Both new(er) lads trained with the rest yesterday morning and will almost certainly go straight into the squad as the Toon take on Leicester City’s ‘Foxes’ at the Walker’s stadium. Leicester City are expecting their biggest attendance of the season so far for this fixture, with almost 29,000 tickets sold before the game.

Leicester have always been a bit of a dodgy team for us, so I’m hoping we do alright today but I still feel a bit uneasy about this match. The Foxes are suffering from a bit of a blip having lost their last 3 games so we should be able to take advantage. but they will also be keen to get back on track as they lie only 3 points outside of a play off place. Toon v Leicester - Monday
Toon v Leicester - Monday
Monday evening sees The Blue Army of newly promoted Leicester City pay their first visit to St James Park since 2004. Having tasted life in Division one, they were promoted as champions at the end of last season and are now enjoying life in the championship.

Ex-Toon caretaker boss, Nigel Pearson, now the man in charge of the Foxes, has ensured a good start to the season where they remain undefeated in their first four championship matches. If they win tomorrow they will go top, giving them something extra to play for.

With Shola already ruled out with a foot injury, another local lad from Byker, ex-toon season ticket holder and Newcastle mad Leicester City striker Steve Howard is desperate to play in tomorrow night’s clash at St James Park. It looks as if his prayers will be answered as he is likely to be passed fit following a recent hamstring injury.

Leicester are hoping to play their on loan left back, Ryan McGivern, a seemingly talented lad signed on Friday from Man City, where he struggled due to the competition for places. A couple of other new faces, Yann Kermorgant and Paul Gallagher, two loan signings in the past week, will also be in contention to join striker Matty Fryatt who has scored three goals this season.
